Stock seat grip tape fun

I've been riding with the racing seat on ever since I got the bike. I was looking to sit a little bit lower in the bike but didn't want to slide around on the stock seat, so I covered the stock seat in skateboard grip tape.

It was awesome! Completely planted whenever I wanted to be, but side to side mobility was not impacted at all. (I wasn't expecting that) The biggest improvement in comfort and feel aside from being lower in the bike is on deceleration. You don't feel any weight transition to your arms so you move around effortlessly. This is because (at least in race leathers) the grip tape holds on to your ass keeping you from sliding forward at all.

Because of all the curves and angles in the seat, the tape won't stay on long on its own. So I got an idea for an interesting winter project - I want the seat top completely covered in grip tape, cut, glued and maybe sewn into place kind of like how pieces of armor fit together. Should be a pretty amazing mod for $10 at Home Depot.

Will post up pix with the progress. Thanks for reading!

Good idea.

I hated the race seat, and only need more grip on the stock seat

I've heard of using grip tape on race bikes before. The only down side is the abrasive material will scuff up the finish of the leather and eventually damage it.

So be on the lookout for that.
