Black smoke

Hi peeps

I took the bike out on Saturday for its UK MOT and the external temperate was around 28 degrees (the bike had been garaged for over 12 months). After 15 minutes of town/traffic riding, it started to display "HIGH TEMP".

After I get to my MOT bike station, a bike mechanic said "you're bike is on fire!". I turn off the key and there's this black burning smoke coming up from the side fairings. Smelt like burning plastic. So I waited 1hr, rode back for home 15 mins. The display shows "HIGH TEMP" again. This time, no smoke.

FYI, the coolant and oil were changed around 3 years ago where 1500 miles have been done.

1. What do you think this black burning smoke was?
2. Will a heat protection product stop the bike temperature gauge increasing?
3. I've purchase an Austin racing GP2 system. Will the natural bike temperature increase after installation?

Thanks

First of all I am surprised you rode the bike again after black smoke and the smell of burning plastic .
Take it to a mechanic .

I Ride: 2015 Panigale R
So the bike has been sat for over a year? You've never checked the coolant in 3 years? You really should of checked it over, oil, coolant, fuel, lights etc and the brakes before taking off.

What should of happened was high temp light, pull over, turn off the ignition, let the bike cool and then check the coolant.

It's possible you've caused some damage there and your *cough* mechanic should of known this.
