Swap BBS units on a Panigale?

Hi,

I think I have an issue with the BBS in my 1299.

My question is, will the bike run with a borrowed BBS from another bike? (first we can assume it is of the same model and I want to check if the bike will handle
differently). As I understand it many parts in the electronics should (need to?) be programmed with the VIN-no of the bike at the Ducati dealer, but will it run? Or, how badly will it run? What happens?

Second question, will the borrowed BBS be corrupted in any way so that I can not return it to my buddy again without any snags?

I hope there is someone here that can shed light on this?
Regards

What he said. I've used multiple BBS modules on both my 1199 and 899 just as long as they're from the same model.

Yes the bike will run no matter what BBS is plugged in but if its not the same box (part #) all of your electronics are not going to work such as ABS, DQS, DWC or EBC.

That's great news!
Does anyone care to speculate on why the shop insists that it needs to load a new BBS with the bikes VIN-no? Ducati regulations? (without any real benefits/drawbacks otherwise? One would think that something would differ?)

i have a spare BBS unit for my bike. I swap it with the tail section (rear subframe) when i put race plastics on it. The bike runs the same and doesnt know the difference. I did NOT load the VIN from my bike on my spare BBS and i am not sure why this would be needed other than the dealer trying to make money on your by selling snake oil
