Swap 899 oem slip on for 959?

Posting this here because my other thread is acting up.
Anyone ever do this?
my 899's exhaust silencer, aka the cans are kind of beatup and quite dirty. I was looking around and saw I could get some pretty new 959 cans for a really good price to replace mine. Theyre also black which i think look much nicer than the muck attracting silver on the 899. I looked up the scematics and I feel like the pipes might fit on perfectly if I was somehow able to replace the down pipe thats connected directly to the cans. This is due to the gasket looking different, dont think there's any other difference. Is there anyway around that maybe? What are your thoughts?

Won’t work 1:1... you can butcher it by grinding off the 3 tabs on the y-pipe and allowing the 959 clamp to go over it. But then the flange angle is still different... i have done that mod a few times on the y-pipes to get the proper angle.

Better would be to also install 959 headers, with the appropriate y-pipe.

Thanks man, appreciate the feedback. I would go for an aftermarket slip on but these damn things are so expensive..

I’ll give you my cores cans if you want them. Phl did them about 18 months ago and they sound amazing. I’ve got a full termi race system to put on so these will just be laying around. I can send the covers out to be anodized too if you’d like.

Thanks, I'm not even sure what that means to be honest. You are the most giving guy on the forum man! So are the pipes 899/1199 style or 959/1299 versions?

Well they aren’t doing me any good sitting on a shelf in my shop. When’s the next time you’re going to be at NJMP? They are 899 OEM cans that have been cored.

Hah, gotcha. I'm thinking about the 24th to try NYST for the first time with Ducati NYC. However, if that falls through i will probably do the NJMP day on the 24th, weather permitting.
