Electronic fork internals. 1199s forks

Hey there. Ok I知 building a custom race bike. I知 going to be using 1199s forks one it. Couple questions. First, if you wanted to go to manual cap adjustments what do the stepper motors caps do? Just spin rods all the way down in the fork as a manual would? I see people asking this similar question but the answer given is always that you have to replace the whole internal set up. Can someone please tell me why? Or can someone send me to a diagram of the internals? Seems that I can only find the noneletronic drawings.? 2nd question is this... how are the electronic caps made to work? ( I can make my own ecu.) is it just a voltage style? That a certain amount of current moves the motor so far? Or is it a electronic signal that is in code to place it to a certain step for the adjustment level? Thanks, Mike Wagner.

If you download the workshop manual there is a section on the breakdown of the electronic forks, there you can see how the motor is connected and how the adjustment rods are shorter/different etc etc.

not sure on what type of signal is used to turn he motor, might have to break the multimeter out and do some measurements

I think the motors are "simple" steppers.
if so, you need a H bridge driver for each motor.

...bipolar steppers, because of the 4 wires.
these give no Feedback about the position.
best would be a driver that carry's about the current to determine the min/max position.
like a "dual monster motor shield", a bit smaller, this is with 30A unnecessary powerful.

this is complete theory! potentially bullshit!
