To each his own!

We get the F1 circus here in Montréal and the hype is way over the top! Every item for sale in the entire goddam town is maked up 3x it's value, bars and and clubs are jammed to the point where locals run away.

What I liked about Austin is that we got to take in MotoGP during daytime and a genuine Austin at night.

Absolutely! I've been both years, & will be there again. Wouldn't miss it!

I Ride: 2014 1199 "Sofia"
SO I got an email the the tickets are open for sale for the COTA USGP. They have a decent sale going on for 3 day tickets plus paddock passes, tours, free open top shelf bar, and some other VIP stuff for $1899 including 3 night stay at the Renaissance Austin and free shuttles to/from the track. Still need airfare though.

Thoughts? I'm not usually a fan of these packages, but it seems ok. Might be cheaper to get everything separate since I don't need so many bells and whistles right??

After looking on their website some more, they have a $899ea "premium paddock pass" that allows you to go on to the trackside of the pits which would be cool and includes free bar, food, and breakfasts haha. That may be my choice...

Also, how far is the track from downtown Austin? Should I stay downtown and pay for trans or stay close to the track if possible and trek into the city?!?

Its maybe 20 minutes from downtown.

You can certainly do it for less but I'm sure that $1899 package is first class. For me, if I'm going to spend that much it will be for the Ducati track experience and you get to ride the track for 2 full days. Better than just watching.

The ducati island package was only $300 but no paddock access...just great parking trackside and a place to hang out.

Wait for the Ducati Island package to come out. By far the best value. It comes with an optional paddock access.

The track is 20 min. from downtown, no possibility to stay at the track.
