Visiting "home"

So I've lived/grownup in Vancouver (and surrounding areas) for over 30 years. I moved to another province last year and have been fiend-ing to get back to some of the rides that I learned to street ride on as a young teen.

Anyhow, got a chance to do about 600kms of riding the other day, almost all at a good spirited pace. The ride my friend and I did was a pretty popular route called "Duffy Lake Loop". Instead of doing the full loop, we always go up to Lillooet (through Squamish/Whistler/Pemberton), loop through Lytton, and come back down the same way.

This year there are some serious forest fires blazing, so our ride had this hot kind of dark/smoky ambiance to it. Although I prefer cool clear weather with bright enough sun to warm the pavement, this was pretty fun. The scenery is the best around, but all of it was blocked by smoke. You could look at the sun and it looked like an orange circle. Almost apocalyptic like.

Anyways, was nice to get some good variance of fast riding and super tight hairpins to get the Pani through all of its paces (as far as street riding goes that is limited by my skill level). My riding bud is a motorcycle enthusiast with a few bikes. He chose to bring his VFR... Obviously the Pani is far more capable, but it's not like I was pulling over and waiting for him. He's a far more experienced rider than me; probably proportionate to his 20 years on the planet longer than I.

Got some wicked GoPro footage, but I never have time to watch it.

Anyways, here are a few pics: (comments such as; "Cool story bro" are expected, if any).

If you go riding on the weekends or holidays, you're going to get in trouble. The law here is that if you're 40km/h (25mp/h) above the limit, the police impound your ride for "excessive speed". Unless you get a REALLY cool cop. They even have helicopters that fly around and use triangulation measurements to see how fast you're going and then radio their road partners to scoop you up...

But other than that, if you're smart on the longer straights and very gradual curves, and go at a time that isn't prime squid and Harley enthusiast time, you can bomb along at like 139km/h on the straights and get going in the twisties. I've never had a ride up there where I didn't enjoy myself, and I can't stand doing a really slow ride.

I love that route; I used to ride it all the time when I lived in Vancouver. That said, I am happy to be away from the excessive police presence and harsh penalties.
Funny, I used to ride that route with a fellow who was also 20 years older than me and had a red VFR (and a Speed Triple).
