Yes the leathers were Lewis leathers, from London ( I think), still got them. They were the best available at the time, but not extra protection other than double thickness of leather on the knees and elbows.

No stretch panels either, so you had an extra sack hanging off your butt.

The little Honda had a 35W Tungsten headlight which was piss poor, so I went with the 24 hour Bol D'Or (backyard) lighting setup. A Cibie foglight for low beam use and a spot light for highbeam. The fairing was a Bill Roberts Racing, pretty much designed to fit any bike out there. S&W shocks (I think from the USA) and a Yoshimura exhaust. The engine, after I blew mine up, came from one of the three CB400F's that raced in the Isle of Man as Faith, Hope and Charity.

You gentlemen’s are an inspiration and I am humbled by your experiences. I just got back into riding in 2016 following a "30 year +" hiatus. Owning several bikes in my teens including a Kawi triple, my last ride was a 1978 GS1000 modified to look like Wes Cooley's AMA superbike. It sounded something like the Youtube video attached. I sold it in 1984 to start a family. Now I'm back into it having purchased the sportbike I always dreamed of riding; I chose a 959 Panigale. I was too intimidated to purchase the 1299 but I have complemented the bike with a Monster 1200R. 2016 was one of the happiest year in my life and wishing that 2017 will be even better.

Excellent, although I find it funny when someone selects a 959 as a slightly less intimidating bike.

How quickly we forget the progression of Ducati super bikes, 750, 851, 888, 916, 996, etc., all of which couldn't hold a candle to a 959....

I know what you mean but I couldn’t exactly find the right words to describe my reasoning for the selection.

I Ride: 2013 1199S 2005 VFR800
62 and have been riding more 55 years. Ducati was on the "Bucket List" and picked up a used 2013S in 2015 and have been smiling ever since.

I ride long distance, not track. Have opened up the bike on some long lonely stretches in the desert and mountain passes. I load the bike up once a year for a major trip, 20K+, and lots of small 2-3 day get aways. The Ducati has been a great riding buddy through every type of weather and it always gets me home.

Watching the videos some of you lads have posted makes me get the itch to try the track!

WOW 79 and some of your are still on your Panigales - Thank you for your inspirational messages!!!!!!

I Ride: 2013 1199R, 2018 1299FE, & 2015 Panigale R (& 2 HDs)
61 here and doing plenty of track days. Can't put much pressure on the knees with torn ligaments but I try to work around it and wear knee supports. Doctor says I shouldn't be doing this but I won't stop until it just hurts too much. Don't feel anything during the ride but I sure do when I get off. I ride little on the street with the Rs because I got the Harleys for that. My biggest passion is still the sportbikes; many times I think about more sportbikes and track riding forgetting about my age. I can't imagine riding in my seventies but according to some here, I should be able to......
