Yes I used the search function to see if I could find information to the questions I'm asking, but couldn't find anything. I know the heat issue has been beat to death, but here goes.........

What type of clothing are you guys wearing while riding when experiencing the extreme heat issue?

While wearing full leathers, does this problem still exist from the exhaust/rear head engine heat? Regardless the time of year here in AZ, I'll still wear full leathers while riding 95% of the time and very limited riding in town. I don't mind sweating in leathers, but don't want to sweat and get roasted too. Although full leathers are not ideal for everyone, I'd like to know if the heat remains a problem or not.

Those of you who wear jeans, are you buying special bike jeans, modifying your jeans to combat the heat or just wearing off-the-shelf jeans and getting roasted?

I won't even ask if you ride in shorts! :D

I've owned multiple bikes over the years and some would get toasty depending on what I chose to wear while riding or location.

Well my friend, everyone knows DUCATI is an extreme performance machine and with that, we have some things we grow accustomed too. Such as the heat. "The price for admission" I guess is how you can put it. Any how, here's how you fix the issue....move to Cali. Weathers always great here. [emoji1]

Clothing of any kind is not an issue.

It is sitting on an oven when its turned on high, when the bike gets over 200f and your fan is coming on and off on a hot summer day in slow traffic your screwed no matter what your wearing.

It cost me 8K to fix the engine temps and the rider heat. I could literally ride my 1299 in mid summer with shorts on and not have any bike or rider heat issues. I get it. Thats not realistic to dump 8K on a new bike but it is attainable and could have been done at the factory. My 1299 is now the bike it could have been with a bit more effort by the engineering dept.

1 Akra pipe with the stock carbon shield
2 Carbon Subframe (CDT)
3 remove engine covers
4 35 mm upper and lower radiator core (MAC)
5 toggle switch the fan

Boom done. You can hit the road in a tank top and a Speedo and not complain.

Are you for real OP

I mean have we not done this to death.

Yeah I'm for real. Maybe you should've just skipped on down the street or at least put in the effort to read what I actually posted before commenting.

I have been reading these even before deciding to buy the bike, almost did not because of it.
In any event when you read all of it you can find the solution, and here it is: exhaust wrap. Yes, but don't wrap it around the exhaust, wrap it around your right thigh. [emoji4]

I've removed all heat covers, guards etc. I ride mostly in a 1 piece. Occasional Jeans/jacket/boots. The heat is there but not an issue, expected.

As stated above - all fine if you're moving. Full leathers, jeans, etc - all fine with the heat.

Just do what you need to do to keep moving and stay safe.

Really only number 4 and 5 are the major mods here that effect heat.

Akra makes it worse and so does removing engine covers.

CF subframe is non sequitur as well

THIS!
If I am not moving I am def over 200F. If I am stuck in traffic, Im usually around ~217F. Riding with no traffic in front, and Ill be around 180 190 depending on gear and speed.

The bike used to burn through anything I wore before, but strangely not anymore. Im pretty sure I cooked all of the heat receptors in my thighs on this bike. Ive got the scars to prove it too!

Outhouse, I am assuming that you have the Akra pipe and shield installed and that you had removed the engine covers and have now reinstalled them? Is this an accurate assumption? Additionally we took a slew of pyrometr data from the subframe. It is definitely a large contributor to "Rider" temp issues. I would love to see your thermal data on the pipe and engine heat.

Seems like everyone has a different approach to this issue and it seems that for some the heat issue is not an issue at all. For me, this was a ground up project build so all options were open. I took a systematic approach to what from an engineering perspective seemed to make sense. Looking at the HRC radiator on my 1000rr compared to the 1299 it's obvious that the Ducati is under radiated based on thermal numbers. Your limited in width on the radiarors but there was some room for improvement in core thickness. The stock fan works but by the time it is triggered your past the point of really effectively modulating heat progression. Switching the fan on at 190 is a better alternative. The stock subframe is aluminum. It is directly bolted to the engine and effectively becomes a giant heat sink which you are now sitting on. Couple that with a steel header pipe that does not dissipate heat as well as Titanium and a heat shield made of more ineffective heat dissipating material and, well you have a flipping hot ride. If you don't think the subframe is an issue ask Shiftech how the sale of their CF subframe shields are selling. It's an issue. The CF subframe made a large difference. My solutions for the most part are not financially practical however the scope of the thread was solution based, not based on practicality or feasibility.

Endodoc,

The ones who claim that there are no heat issues with the xx99 model are basically in denial. These bikes ridden on the streets all have heat issues. Track is a different story. For some people to say that they don't experience the heat is a straight up lie. Even my cbr600 gets ridiculously hot in stop n go traffic....borderline unbearable but not as bad as my 1199. Some may be dealing with it the same way that I am but to say the bike doesn't get scorching hot is just absurd. I put up with it n will continue to do so just because. When it causes me harm (burns n such) then I'll deal with it. For now, I just try to avoid long rides in stop n go traffic and middle of the day riding.

Thanks Endo and OO!

I have a lot of thinking to do. I really want to buy a new 1299, but I've gotta give it some serious thought now. Its fairly warm weather here year round (blazing hot during summer months) and I like to ride, so I don't want to have to choose which time of day or month to ride because of engine/exhaust heat or overheat issues. Yes, I know many or all bikes get hot or can have heat issues at some point. Before I make the decision either way, I'm going to set up an appointment to test ride a 1299. They told me I can have the bike for up to 1-hr. I'm going to put it through the paces in traffic and on the freeway. Its already hitting 90*'s here, so this will be perfect timing to see if I can deal with it or not. I have ridden various V4's, V-Twins and inline-4's in the summer time, so I want to see if the heat is similar or worse. Thanks.

I ride to work in bullit jeans..... yeah you can feel it when stood at lights but it is not un bearable.... I live in a very hot climate too

I think if I had normal jeans on I would feel it more
