I love my 1199 but it took a bit of sorting out regarding exhaust and fueling, now it's done I won't ever be selling it unless there was a major catastrophe. When I rode a stock 1299s it was a nice feeling bike regarding suspension and the power delivery was nice, As I said it was a stock bike and I think you could live with it out of the box.
But in saying all that you may get a .... load of enjoyment out of adding bits to a base 1199 like I have or buy one that has had the work already done by some poor sod like me 
They all look the same and most parts are interchangeable between models, I also know someone who has a bone stock first addition 1199 and can't see why people make changes to them.
