Seems to be a lot of convincing trying to happen in various threads about which model is best for which potential owner.

So, avoiding any nonsense d*ck statements like "lets put the record straight", "lets get this clear", "save or regret" maybe we can all agree on the following, since Ducati in their infinite wisdom have catered for 3-broad groups of owner:

1) Base Model - for people that love the 1199 Panigale, just don't need/want the trick upgraded parts

2) S Model - for people that love the 1199 Panigale, just need/want the trick upgraded parts

3) Tricolore Model - for people that love the 1199 Panigale, just need/want the trick upgraded parts and fancy paint

Any 1199 Panigale is gonna be a great scoot and pure joy to own:)

option one please; 1) Base Model - for people that love the 1199 Panigale, just don't need/want the trick upgraded parts

Option 2, unfortunately with an option 1 budget.

I "NEED" all those options and upgrades!

Option one.

I loved my '08 1KRR with no ABS, traction control, EBC, quick shifter, or TFT display. If I want trick suspension I'll replace what comes on the base. I don't see myself being in such a hurry to set it up for a track day that I can't pull out my tool kit and manually adjust my rebound and compression.

And that's my justification for the base!

tri colore - This is such a significant bike I wanted a real collector that I can keep forever

Option no. 1 of course. Waiting for the aftermarket parts like ohlins and bst rims patiently. And also the led front headlight kit. Hehe.. Cheers! :D

I too have gone for option 1, but if you want to change the suspension in the future, will your options be limited due to the different size of the front forks?

Have gone for option 1 with ABS
ordered Tricolore fairings
Magnesium Marchesini's
Front forks i think will be good and are 1kg lighter than Ohlins
and the headight is easily 1/2 kg lighter:)

Thats the way I was going!

Tric fairings - can't argue with that, what £2000'ish
Marchesini's - yup, the stockers may be 20% lighter than previous, but they are still very heavy compared to the new setup.
Forks - yup, they'll do the job great!
Headlights - they may be lighter, but they definitely won't be lighter :p

But the thing that started to really nag me was the rear-shock. On smooth roads great, but on the ..... that I'll be riding, the more sophisticated Ohlins are gonna be a saver.

I went with the S with ABS because I'm just not feeling the tri-colour scheme on this generation bike even though I've loved the tri-colours of the past. I didn't want to miss out on any options so I even bought the Termi exhaust :D

I'm an I.T. manager by trade so I'm a geek, the top-of-the-line model is the ultimate geek bike with all of it's cool electronics. Hell, just the electronic suspension with multiple riding modes sold me. The cluster and LED lights are just icing on the cake. I went with base 848 when I bought new in 2009 and I ended up doing so many upgrades I may as well get the S this time.

Come on delivery!!!!! Screw collecting, I'm going to ride the living crap out of this thing for the next 5 years at least. I'll be lucky if I have enough time to wash it lol. I think I only washed my 848 once every 8 months or so, bugs and no chicken stripes for me please :p

will wait and see about the rear shock, a lot of the other models which dont use Ohlins are usually better on the road as Ohlins tend to be too firm, having ridden about 500miles on an "S"1199 i didnt adjust the electronics once it seemed pretty spot on anyway

Have you seen the Diavel rear shock upgrade vid on MCN?

Could be shameless toot, but made we wonder......

1) Base w/no ABS.

I rode a base 1198, so I think the base 1199 with a couple of minor mods will suit me perfectly. I think it'll address what I didn't like about my 1198. I.E. no TC with monster torque, riding position, and plastic fuel tank. All I want to do the '99 is put a slip-on on (already ordered), short lic plate holder (ordered), and possibly the LEDs. I realize the suspension/wheel upgrades will affect performance fairly significantly, but that said, I actually like the look of the base wheels, and forks better, haha. Yes I know some of you just threw up a little, but I'm not out there trying to be the fastest guy by any stretch. With regard to ABS, I've never had it, so I won't miss it. Again, I know some of you guys feel strongly that it's a must-have. I've had a few emergency stops in my time, locked the rear, and scared myself. But the way I ride these days, I still trust my right hand and right foot to get the job done. I know this may contradict the fact that I do really want TC, but we all have our own desires and budgets to balance, no? =)

Option 3 for me and for no other reason than I love it. I don't care about the trick bits I just love the overall look of the Tric'. I will however be getting a spare set of wheels and some slicks for thrashing it round track days! Well you would be daft not to huh? LOL

I think the standard wheels are a bit Triumph and made in far east (Enkei) but I do prefer the look of the Marzocchi forks to the Ohlins.
reason for ordering an ABS version was they are due earlier into UK than non ABS I also could not detect the ABS on any of the rides I went on.

If you are looking at fitting the LED lights its not that easy as wiring loom is different and also clockset, plus the LED headlight is over £1000....

Yeah, the wheels do add mass (actual and visual), but I like the spoke design. Craftsmanship won't touch the Marchesinis of course. The color (particularly the black slider portion) and diameter of the Marzocchi are what do it for me.

Clockset . . .?

Yes dashboard is different for LED operation
