been shopping and i think have narrowed down bikes. found a 14 r with 68 miles for 23000 or a 15 1299 base for 20000. these are OTD. i know the R is an R but is out of warranty, would need serviced and battery maybe. will be street bike,no racing or track days. value you opinions on these bikes. i have not had a ducati since my 06 999s and i'm sure they have changed a bit. had plenty of jap bikes and now have rc8r that i plan to keep too.
thank you:)

I agree. The R is a great bike but as far as a better street bike the 1299 hands down. Yes the R is special indeed and will hold its value a bit more that the S. However the broad torque range of the S is so nice. And you are getting a full 2 year of coverage with the option to buy 4 more years. But only you can decide what is best. For me I had the coin to buy either one. I still went with the 1299S. I have not even once wished I got the 1199R. Now if I had a bit more coin the Desmo.... Now that is way more special than the R or the S. And sounds like the Devil on two wheels!

Since no racing or track days I would go with the 1299. From my understanding better power delivery for street and 1199R has lightened flywheel which is not as street friendly for stop and go.

pros R:

- it's an R
- if you're a really fast racer, you will be even faster on that bike

pros 1299:
- wheelie control
- refined electronics
- 100 cc more : more torque
- wayyyy enough for the street and an occasional trackday

Heres a Little Trinket of info for ya ;) That I read from another member on here and quickly checked the Parts Manuals of the bikes to confirm.

The 2013-14 1199R, 2015-16 1199R, 2015-16 1299/1299S ALL Run the same lightweight Fly wheel weight setup ;)

I just bought a new 2015 1299s three weeks ago. You should be able to get a MUCH lower price than $20k for a 2015 1299 base.

thanks guys, got me leaning towards the 1299,warranty and all. the 20000 price was OTD.but will work on it.:)

Correct me if I am wrong but I was thinking the 15R's are where the R really took off with the Superlaggera engine internals and the previous models were basically S's with a few minor engine mods.. That said as a street bike the base 1299 seems to be where its at..

I have a 14' 1199R, and I've ridden the 1299S at the race track. While yes wheelie control is very nice (since the 12'-14' 1199's do not have it) I'm surprised no one has mentioned the auto-blipper being standard on the 1299.

After riding the 1299S at Mugello it was a game changer using the auto-blipper, I promptly ordered the BSD Blip Box Pro and couldn't be happier. Still missing wheelie control and launch control (which the 1299 has) but thats fine.

I would choose the 1299s over the 1199R if I had both sitting in front of me for the same price.

auto-blipper is definitely a great feature, but 1299 does not have launch control.

Wow you're right, how did I miss that in the spec sheet. What are you all doing for launch control when you club race? I assume RapidBike and TuneBoy have a launch control option?

the 15's are a really different bike and you get more bang for your buck.
