bought a set from calsport UK..they said they can be switched to race shift they also showed me this in the manual, anybody fitted them? i also bought the new Gilles brake levers but not in the country yet as just been released, 20% discount at uk show :)

Nope, and I never will again.

I had a set on my R1 and they failed twice. One time the footpeg broke completely off...and this was at corner entry during a race. And getting replacement parts and/or support from Gilles was like pulling teeth (at least in the USA).

Interesting, I've had opposite experience with them through Shift-tech. Guido was excellent to deal with. Held up nicely in 2 race crashes and liked them on my old HP4 but removed because couldn't go GP shift.

Maybe try hanging off the bike more, Chris and quit scraping the .... outta the pegs. Kidding.

To the OP, call Guido at Shift-Tech Carbon. He'll help you out. It's been a while since I installed mine and I remember instructions in the box being ......

I have actually crashed because of that before. T2 at Barber Motorsports Park on my 675 about 5 years ago, drug the peg hard enough to unload the back wheel...which overloaded the front wheel and boom...ate .....

But with the Gilles, it was actually when I was standing on the outside peg while pouring on the gas exiting one corner, prior to preparing to enter another one. The damn peg just broke/sheared off. It is a weird feeling when you are weighting the outside peg and suddenly your foot goes to the ground.

Yeah I hate when that happens :D

Have Gilles on mine. They do straight and GP shift without additional parts. Mine are a few years old already, I bought them for my 2013 1199 and carried them over to the 1299.

When they first came out they had needle bearings which would seize on you and wear out. The newer versions have sealed ball bearings, they last forever and no noticeable play after 3 years.

Shifty is very good with sending out parts they carry, if they have to order from Germany expect delays.

I agree with Chaotic. I will never own another set of anything made by Gilles. I broke 2 sets of rear sets racing at Daytona. On both sets, I broke the shift rod. On one set, I was exiting the International horseshoe, and broke the shift rod and came within a gnat's butt of getting an anal exam by the racer behind me. The other time was exiting the back straight chicane at Daytona to go up on the banking. I'm on the power, go to shift, and then nothing. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I was racing a ZX-10R when it happened and I know I stress the crap out of the rear sets both shifting and weighting the pegs but I've never had a failure with Vortex or Woodcraft rear sets like the Gilles. Be warned if you intend to race with Gilles rear sets.

Done the EXACT same thing. T2 Thunderhill. Passing on the outside (don't ask), he pushed me out wide so came back in hard to make T3. Down I went. Remember sliding on my back straining to look up to see how messed up my new paint job from the day before was getting.
