Hi everyone. I am hoping for some insight from you fine folks.

While eating lunch after my ride today my 1299S got backed into and knocked over onto its left side. F350 pushed it up and over the side stand. Not a ton of visible damage. I'm sure it'll add up fast however... Left bar end mirror and clutch lever, right fairing, left pegs and passenger peg mount. Scratched the exhaust on the right side, etc. I'm more worried about the hidden stuff. I've never had to deal with insurance on a bike and was hoping you all may have some pearls of wisdom?

Thanks in advance!

Just take it to your local Ducati dealer. Plastics alone will be a bunch of loot.

This. They will examine as necessary and provide a quote to the insurance company. If it's a good dealer, they'll take care of everything after that as well and just give you back a repaired bike.

As mentioned, the steering stops on the lower triple break easily, which is a pricey repair in both part and labor.

My 959 got backed into by a Chevy truck and my right side was damaged. 2k in damage and my insurance company will be approving later this week.

Where and what do the steering stops look like? Thy aren't on my estimate and I didn't mention it to the dealer or the adjuster. Thanks!

Near the pivot point on the lower triple clamp (big cast aluminum clamp holding your forks on) are 2 threaded bolts (1 each side), on the top of it. These are meant to stop the handlebars from turning too far. The cast mount that the threaded bolt/stop goes through can Crack or break off.

I had this happen on my last bike which was a 2010 Daytona 675SE. Tipped over at my last jobs parking lot. Cracked tail end, bar end scraped, mirror broke, gas tank had a quarter size dent in the corner, and some light scrapes on front nose fairing. State farm adjuster visited my dealer to check out the damage n approved the repairs at almost $4000. I didn't see a need to repair the bike since it was literally just cosmetic damage so I pocketed that money. A year later, sold the bike for $7800 as is. Bike was $11k OTD new and owned it for just over 2 yrs. I had a $600 akrapovic slipon, pazzo levers and couple of other small cosmetic mods. Basically owned the bike for free the 2yrs I had it. The damage was worth it in that scenario. That said, I highly doubt I'd be able to live with the cosmetic imperfections on a Panigale though, regardless of the amount I could pocket from it.

Got it scheduled to go to the dealer on Friday. Thanks for the heads up on the stops, I'll get a look at those! I've been out of the country and finally got a decent ride in today, she's got less than 300 miles so this is kick in the sack.

Thank you!

I have had this happen to me as well with one of my custom bikes. Guy in a pickup truck backed into my bike then took off. Caused about 4k in damage.

that sucks,

if you have the exhaust left over, please lemme know.

Just pocket the insurance check and buy the parts on eBay. You'll keep some scratch in your pocket that way.

Yep, what MdDuc said. Same exact thing happened to my bike. Can't recall the total $$$ damage, but I took the check, bought aftermarket replacement parts and used parts, and pocketed the rest.

^ what he said, the amount dealer charges you for OEM parts, you might as well get some nice bling

Sorry to hear that. I hate hearing these stories with a brand new bike. I hope the insurance gets you back on the road quick. At least it will only be superficial.

Thanks! I was just down on Tassie riding, made it through Victoria and some of New South Wales. Some beautiful country with amazing roads.
