picked up the 1299 2 weeks ago, and ride it to work a few times, heats issue seems drastically improved compared to 1199, anyone feel the same?

How do you like the 1299 compared to the 1199?. I have been debating on upgrading to the 1299, it sounds like an amazing bike! Actually from what I have read the 1299 has more heat issues so not sure.

Did your 1199 have the heat shrouds that they started installing two years ago?

I feel more heat from the standing cylinder which has the standard covering installed on my 1299S.
The under seat heat seems to be a good improvement to my old 1199.
But it is still not summer in Germany so the temperatures has not been too extreme.

Heat accumulation could be the result of the cylinder cover.

The heat from my 1299 is HOT on my right bum. Not unbearable, but HOT enough to get your attention.

I did what another gentleman on here did. We cut strips of aluminum backed heat strips and stuck them on the underside of the seat.

If the 1199 was hotter than the 1299, all I can say is..."Lord have mercy!"

NVM, summer is here, and the damn thing is just as hot haha

i like the 1299 quite a bit more than the 1199, still a mental bike to ride, but much more accessible

doing the first track day of the season this Sunday, will be able to tell in full

I commute every day on mine.. But YESTERDAY!!! HOLY CRAP!! It was 103 degrees at my house and the commute was bloody torture; I could barely deal with the heat.. I got home and had to jump into the shower immediately to cool off my lower extremities.

How bad was it??? Let's say, I might not be capable of fathering any more children...:eek:

On my cross country jaunt I rode with a bag of ice in my underwear. No joke.

To be fair, I only did that in the Southwest, but still!

I have been seriously contemplating that solution; I have those blue Ice bags in our freezer.. I was thinking I should take a few to work with me and leave them in the freezer there for emergency heat situations like yesterday...

Today, it's a relatively cold 72 degrees.. No fried eggs TODAY!

That might be a better solution. My issue was I had to constantly refill the ziploc baggies since it melted so quickly!

I rode up to Tampa last Thursday for a meeting. The morning wasn't bad...77-78 degrees. The ride home? Ho. Lee. .... It was 95-96 air temp on the dash gauge. The worst part was there was an accident on I75 about half way home. I had to bail off and take 10 miles of side streets(or sit on 75).

By the time I jumped back on the interstate, I was on fire.

The limit for me seems to be right at 90 degrees....

Do you all experience this as general heat all over, and not one particular bad spot? I've found it's vaguely uncomfortable overall, but the biggest problem are the two screws on the cylinder head cover. Maybe people with longer legs don't end up with their thighs right over those screws the way I do (I sit right up against the tank to reach the bars, I imagine I wouldn't be able to sit that far forward if I were male...) I think I don't even notice other parts being hot due to the actual burning happening to my leg.

Shilling, I added the Shift-Tech carbon frame covers, and they made a HUGE difference on the legs (I haven't had any issue in the posterior yet).

Yeah, inner/rear right thigh is the worst for me, right by the cylinder head. Added the carbon frame covers (with heat shields underneath) - SO much better.

I might try those. I noticed in pictures around the web a lot of people have removed the plastic cylinder head cover. Does that help, or are those people insane and willing to deal with even hotter legs for better looks? Has anyone tried a CF cylinder cover? I still think the screws would burn me.

The heat on my a$$ is not as bad on the 1299. It's the heat that comes from the frame where your knee is that burns the sh!t out out of my inner part of my knees. What's up with that?

With no main frame, the small, aluminum sub-frame bits all bolt directly to the motor. Exposed metal bits bolted directly to the cylinder head (that happens to be situated between your legs) are going to get hot. Not much insulation/isolation/heat sink available, so you get to experience the Superquadro up close and personal. Ducati have lessened the issue vs the original 1199 design by adding covers here and there and upscaling the exhaust heat shield, but the bike's basic form means it's going to be hot. Fine in milder weather and with airflow from road speed, but stuck in traffic on a hot day, you are just going to bake. One more reason to take the road less traveled!

had my first track day yesterday, temp was 80+, and the bike runs consistently at 180-200F, that is an improvement over my old 1199 with Rexxer map (195-215)
