So, I was looking at pics of the 1299 this AM because I wondered what they did for the underseat length of exhaust pipe in terms of heat shielding.. It looks to me they digressed to what aestetically looks like the original shape of shielding found on the 1199 albeit redesigned I'm sure.... I was curious because my bike is at the shop currently for new forks and 1 recall which is that shield; I'm not a fan of how the updated one looks and living in Maine I'm not extreamly worried about the heat, we dont wait at lights, not much traffic, and actually we dont ride at the height of the day in the middle of the summer; usually a morning ride or early evening is our time.. Im not a big fan of riding in 80 degree weather..
Question is, anybody have a chance to check that out on a 1299 and for those of you in a seasonal climate such as mine does the shield really make any difference? Thanks guys..

I was considering swapping out my 1199s heat shield for the 1299 model if it is feasible and better made..

Its the same as the 899 shield. Profile is the same as the original 1199, but is double walled, with a composite/plastic outside with a thin metal inside with heat shield tape between the two.

I have one on my 1199. No issues.

The only heat I really notice from the bike is that which comes from my legs contacting the subframe. Going to pick-up some carbon fiber covers for them.

Aahha.. Gotcha.. So the mounts are the same; no problem mounting it on a 1199?

Mounts the same, less the bracket which attaches the large shield to the right footrest.

Location of the bolts on the exhaust are exactly the same.

80 Degrees? LOL
Try coming down to Central Texas Here in Austin and riding in 99 to 102 Degrees in the middle of summer ( with 70 Degree humidity LOL) Now THAT IS HOT.....I think 80 degrees is a cool day.... Don't be a wuss! This bike puts out heat.. Two big cylinders encased in a plastic fairing.. etc... Engines get hot ( especially twins). Ask any Harley owner how hot the motor gets.. Just part of the experience I have to admit that this is the hottest bike I have ridden in more ways than one.
I just got a 1299 and it is a hot mutha too. but TOTALLY worth it..

Speedy

I hear ya.. I'm scottish/german, we're not built for any type of heat.. 65 is perfect for me.. If its over 80 I'm going out on the water... + By no means do I have to ride the bike, but when I do, I'll enjoy it..
