1299 knocking noise in neutral

Normal. It's the clutch plates clacking on the input shaft.

Listen to a Honda CRF450R or X. Those things sound like grenades at idle.

Here's a video I just found. The noise of which I'm speaking about can be heard from 03:00 on. And you can hear it best just before the engine stalls. This metallic heavy knocking. Sounds familiar to a broken throw-out bearing.

Difference with mine is I can hear it permanently at constant idle rpm.

Btw I'm working in retail at a bmw dealership (cars). I also asked some of our motorcycle technicians about the issue. And so far they don't have a clue. Mostly because our s1000rr's for example don't do this at all.

Hi, just got my wife's 1299 out of the shop because of the same issue. A little bit of knocking is normal, but when it is as loud as WiZz and hers then there is a problem. Luckily it has now been solved. The clutch was quiet in neutral before she got a replacement motor, after that it was knocking like crazy, especially when warm. Ducati took the clutch apart today and found a small dent in the throw out bearing (see diagram part 10). Manufacturing defekt, they say. They replaced it and now it's fine. Only takes about 20min to replace, so it's not a major fix. Hope this info helps, cheers from Ty.

My 1299S does it as well. I stood with the mechanic as he took the clutch apart and couldn't find or see anything wrong. Guess its just one of those things.
