1299 Ohlins Semi-Active suspension vs BMW's?

Yeah, they all tried different setups and had different acronyms. First one I think was the '82 Yamaha Seca 750, so really not a sportbike, but all the sportbikes got them. None of them worked very well since they screwed up the front brake feel, so they made workarounds. Honda called theirs TRAC, and it worked off the torque generated by a pivoting brake caliper, and Suzuki ran an electronic version into the 90's that was triggered by the front brake switch. Everything old is new again!

Slightly off topic peep,
But anyone know if 1199S internals are same/different to the 1299S ones?

I ask because buying crashed 1299S and need forks and 2 people and one ducati shop mech first said were same, but after looking on the fiche, concluded were different due to having different part no.s. So they say, one is semi active and other is fully active??

I just need to know if I can buy 1199S forks and run them on the 1299S electronics.

When we get the Magnatorheological system on bikes (Ducati) we will all be in a much happier place - right now i think it's only found on the Ferrari 458 (under license from GM) & on the Corvette/other GM products - when you finally spend some time with that system, you'll wonder why they haven't put it on motorcycles yet - GM must have some friends at NASA, or direct ties to ET's (Extra Terrestrials), as it is truly a "perfect thing"....

That will need some serious R&D catch-up time from Ohlins...hopefully they are working on it, or signing paperwork with GM

Agree 100% on MR being the next real advance, but Ducati will already have access to the tech. It's not quite that rare on cars now, and Audi put MR dampers on pretty much all their top end models now: "Audi Magnetic Ride".

Bring it!

EDIT: should have added they are contracting for it from BWI, who bought the chassis division of Delphi (who first developed and deployed MR suspension) in '09. They also do the MR engine mounts in certain Porsche's. GT3's for instance... ;)
