Greetings all,

I bought a 1299 a few months ago. Since then I've put 7K miles on it. After a few thousand miles I noticed the side stand started bouncing off the swing arm when I retracted it. A quick inspection revealed that the side stand pivot bolt was backed out so far that the only thing holding it in was the lower fairing. I tightened the bolt and pressed on. After a few more months the side stand started behaving similarly. Again it was backed out. This time I dug a little deeper and found that the two bolts that mount the side stand to the frame were both loose. I also found that the two bolts that secure the left foot peg to the frame were loose. Not sure what happened but it is pretty clear that whomever was supposed to tighten the bolts on the left side of the bike at the factory the day my bike was made was not paying much attention.

Check these bolts on your bikes! Hopefully my bike is the exception. It's crazy that four bolts were loose, apparently from the factory.

I've had it for about a month now. Almost to 1500mi, I will check the kick stand bolts and all that jazz to make sure it isn't a mass effected problem. Thanks for the heads up. I sometimes use the kickstand to spin the bike around to get out of an area faster or get into tight parking spaces without doing a 12 point turn, so the kick stand is pretty important for me.

To tighten the side stand bolt, do you need to remove the fairing?

All I do is go round the bike and make sure the paint marks line up.

those two bolts, I check fairly regularly. I've also gotten into the habit of using blue loctite on a lot of things!!

Wasn't there a guy on this forum with the exact issue, it got so bad he cracked the frame and had to hassle with Ducati warranty?

Definitely worth keeping an eye on these!

My entire bike is covered with multiple colored "marks" on pretty much every bolt; the mechanic that works on my bike is a madman about bolts loosening, so he marks EVERY SINGLE ONE, so he can see if they have moved.. No kidding..

Same here, all my bolts have yellow lines on them

is it a certain type of grease marker? I'm going to mark the bolts the next time I check the torque on them. That'll save me a lot of time - I'll just need to take a peek behind the fairing :)

Blue Loctite is your friend!

This.

And I have found loose bolts on other bikes in the past. Now, I always check all the bolts on a new bike.

The only exception is the RSV4. Every single bolt on the entire bike had the paint strip on it to denote somebody had checked it. And every single bolt was tight. I was impressed.

Noob question here. I've never had such an expensive bike before so don't want to go at it with random tools that are lying around. Do I need some special tools to remove the fairing and check that the side stand is tightened correctly? Also can i just remove the lower part of the fairing on the side stand side?

Another noob question lol - with the loctite do you undo completely and apply it; or just apply around head and shown thread?
