I have a 15 R1M but feel cramped on it (6'3", 195lbs). The Pani R feels 'bigger' on the showroom but I haven't ridden it. I've been riding dirt for 20yrs (now also Harley and Supermoto bike) but this is my first sport bike and that may be part of it.

Anyone have experience on both and comment on how the 'size' difference is between them?? Thanks!

Trevor

I'm sure local folks wouldn't mind trading off for a ride so you can feel a difference vs just hearing about it which won't do anything for you since opinions as well as feel varies.

That's like asking us to choose your favorite flavor of ice cream.

Not even close of an analogy. It's simply asking if anyone of similar size has experience on both bikes and feel less cramped on one versus the other. It's not a hard or odd request by any means.

Unfortunately I'm 5'8" so my experience won't count. The problem is there haven't been a lot of R1 test rides available compared to ducati so I'd assume you'd get more people who've test ridden the 1299/1199 and bought a R1 than the other way around

If you want a roomy Ducati I'd look at the 1x98 bikes. Those bikes have LOADS of room for a taller rider. The Panigale is comparatively cramped.

I hated that series at being 6' tall. They literally beat the crap out of tall guys on long rides.

The pani is 4X more comfy at 6' after say 700 miles in 2 days.

I haven't ridden the new R1, but sat on it a few times at the dealership. The 1299 has more leg room and is more comfortable to me. I am 6'1".

I have a 1299, and rode my friend's R1M, so I have back to back experiences. I'm 5'8" so can't really comment on height, but it wasn't bad - the most comfortable R1 I've ridden, although in general I have found the R1 to be the most uncomfortable of the Japanese superbikes. What I immediately noticed though was *width*. The R1M felt miles wide, compared to the 1299. Ducatis have always been narrow and I guess I've just really gotten used to it.

Yes and no.

They seem to have more room because it is a longer reach for the bars. But at the same time, they put a ton of pressure on your hands/wrist, the tail section wraps around making it awkward on your ... when trying to hang off and they are uncomfortable as .....

FWIW, these are my opinions at 6'2".

The Panigale has a shorter reach to the bars, but the ergos are much more "Jap like" than the 1x98 series.

Actually the Panigale feels more like my Triumph 675 than anything else. And it is a helluva lot more comfortable than my old 1098S. .

I rest my case OP. Half a dozen responses and you are no nearer to an answer. Go to a dealer and sit on one or better yet ride a demo unit. It is a subjective question and hence you will get conflicting answers every time.

This.

Even people of the same height are built different (longer legs or torsos or arms etc). There is no way to be sure without sitting on the bike yourself.

With that being said, you can get good input from people who have sat on both of them back to back. They can tell you how the bikes differ. But nobody will be able to tell you if it will be comfortable for you.

Amen.... I have ridden both of these bikes quite a bit. They ARE VERY different to the point you can't compare them without a very long description.

This site has the 1299, but not the new R1 yet, which is very different than the old one.

Motorcycle Ergonomics

Go sit on one.....

Like the other have said, get a test ride...

6ft 2 and Big here....

I think the Panigale is more comfy, bit more legroom, and not nearly as bent over. but I personally do not like the angle of the Panigale clip-ons. Definity like the position for when the pace pics up. Also the 1x98 was way more cramped for how big that bike was.

Chaotic says the Panigale feels like his 675 (i don't see that), I feel the R1 is far more 675, at least how mine is set-up.

Yes, that's a good comparison, but with the Pani having just slightly higher bars.

I'm 6'3". I rode my 1299S all day yesterday at Jennings GP. I never got a cramp in my hip flexor which I sometimes do if I don't stretch my old butt out really well. Yes, I did stretch.

Get the bike you like best. Street or track...change the windscreen, change to adjustable rear sets and change the clip-ons. This will make either bike much more comfortable.

This is the first Ducati I've ever owned. It is absolutely stupid easy to ride, tons of power, tons of torque, lightweight and I just keep mumbling the only Italian language I know under my helmet...Sophia Loren, Sophia Loren

Enjoy the bike you get. Happy riding.

The pani to me is crazy comfortable. I'm 6'1" 185-190 LBS. I where 32" pants So I would say I have shorter legs and a longer torso. From what I've read the R1 is extremely uncomfortable if you're doing anything but racing..

6'3" 200lbs rider here.

I wouldn't call the 1299 "comfortable," but I can ride it all day at the track without any complaints or discomfort. My s1000rr used to bother my wrists towards the end of the day, and the Pani doesn't, although that's likely due to just better body position and me being less of a noob now.

The street is another matter, where it's more or less a torture device. :)

6'5" and 210 Lbs. and love the Panigale!

I do have aftermarket rearsets and thicker seat but miles more room than the 848 I came from.

The 2003 GSX-R was an Iron Maiden compared to any Ducati I have owned since
