Hi there,
Is it worth getting the DDA+ module for the 1299S? I use my bike for commuting and track riding and i've read that the DDA+ has the option to set a virtual start/finish line which sounds great to track lap times.
Any idea on cost in Australia?
Regards
Alex

I don't know how much it costs, but if you just want the lap timer feature, any GPS lap timer can do that (Aim Solo, XT, etc). You just walk over to start finish before your first session, hold the lap timer in your hand and press 1 button so it knows where start finish is.

Then put it on your bike and ride. It will recognize when you have crossed that same point twice...and there is a lap. Then it will record all of your laps.

The kits are usually about £350- £400. They do come up used on eBay from time to time, I paid £100 just for the GPS module which is all I was interested in.

I have the new version dda+ for 1299, it datalogs lean angle as well. I guess that is probably the only difference with the 1199's version.

It does not measure G forces like some aftermarkets and also not possible to merge as a dash ware to your videos.

I'd have normally just gotten it, but the $600 price got me bent all out of shape, especially considering the limited edition R1M comes with basically the same thing for free.

I use the basic AIM Solo and absolutely love it. I literally put it on the bike, turn it on, and start riding.

It auto-locates the track you are on, starts timing laps when you start riding, will hold the lap time on the display for a few seconds after each lap, and then summarize your top 3 lap times the second you get back to the pits. You literally never have to touch it except to turn it on. It's awesome!

It's a little bulky but I had no issues mounting it on my 1299, and I don't think it pulls data (but the Aim Solo DL does, for a little more $$). Highly recommend it!

I bought it and think it's ok for lap timing. Not the most usable since you have to activate it every single time you start the bike.

But there are several things why I wouldn't buy it again. First of all there is no brake pressure information. I personally think it is the most important data that should be collected at the track. The other thing is that apparently speed is speedometer speed, not the real GPS speed. Thats stupid showing false information. I'm using Racechrono lap timing back again.

Oh yes and the connecting wiring is too short for memory stick. It is PITA to operate.

I quite like it to be honest.
Sure its a little bit of a pain in that you have to go into the menus to activate each start up, and yeah the lead is a little short. On the plus side, it seems to remember what track you are at for triggering/start line so its not manual triggering across the finish line each time, and while the bike only stores 30 laps, the usb plug in will hold much more.
Also works fine with my Mac household, whereas my standalone lap timer is windows only.

I dare say that it depends what level of data you are after. Last season was the first time I even ran any of my own lap timing at all, so I'm not into the heavy analysis that some guys may want to get into as yet. For me I like to be able to see the rpm and gear traces. That has helped me concentrate on picking different gears for certain bend combos, in order to fine tune my laps. Am quite pleased with the whole thing tbh.

DDA sucks.

Ran it for a season. Sold it. Bought a SoloDL. Should have done that in the first place. Way better logger/timer, works on a lot of different bikes/cars, and it doesn't require all the babysitting DDA does. Attach/connect it to the bike, ride, pull the data when you get done. Simple. Oh and Race Studio is like 10x the analysis software that DDA Graphical Analyzer is. Oh and the DL logs in a format you can easily export for video overlays if that's your thing.

Has anyone installed the dda?? I've bought it but it came with no instructions??

Where did you mount it? I have to transfer mine over from the RSV4.

Perfect, thanks!

Can you still see the Tach ok when in a tuck with it mounted right there?
