Hi all, I've seen a few queries on here around what is compatible from 1199 to 1299, I can answer a few of those hopefully along the way to converting my 1299s into a track bike using 1199 race fairings...

The Start:

Bike Exhaust .... at its best!

The Fairings:

I'm not going to go into detail on how to remove fairings/lights etc. as I think there is enough threads on here on how to do that thing...

Tail unit to be fitted first...Remove all plastics, number plate holder, lights, lock unit and new style air vents which bolts on with 2 screws that holds the leather strap down and you are left with the same subframe as the 1199...so the 1199 tail unit IS compatible.

New tail bolts on with the 4 bolts underneath and the bolts in front of the seat pad (nice and easy to remove) I have a tracker fitted so ignore the box tie wrapped to the subframe.

Tank cover on...This is made of Fibre glass so will scratch the tank, I covered the tank in 3M double sided tape and gaffer tape which seemed to do the trick. (Austin Racing Tank Cap fitted too)

Next step to remove side fairings and front nose cone...This is pretty much the same process as the 1199. Be mindful to remove the air intake temp sensor off the headlight and keep plugged in otherwise you'll get the engine light up on the dash.

Intake Temp Sensor to unbolt from headlight:

I'm not sure what this Bosch device is in front of the headlight, maybe a lean angle sensor or something, but I should be able to secure it to the new front upper fairing stay.

I've left it as above for now until a 1199 Front Fairing stay has arrived and the new DDA from ducati so I will let you all know how it goes from here...

I see that you have a spare front mudguard to match your kit. Interested to see if you have much extra clearance to the tyre. Had my R at the track on Friday and there's not a lot of space to get a warmer on the front.

The Bosch device you mention in the bottom is the crucial IMU

another member in here makes dedicated holders for it. Don't bother fixing it improperly.

Nice write up! Have fun at the track!

Will feedback as soon as I fit it as to whether there is any difference...I remember my 1199 mudguard been tight with warmers too!

Thanks for the info on the IMU I will look into it! Hopefully I can fix it to the 1199 fairing stay?

So Finally converted my 1299s into a track bike using 1199 fairings for the upcoming trackdays at Silverstone, Mugello and Jerez later this year...Here's a few snaps.

Fitted the DDA GPS sensor, but because the fairings are 1199 ones meant I needed to fit a 1199 upper fairing surround, luckily I had a spare one from my 1199..

Front mud guard fitted on no problem, with a few extra mm clearance for tyre warmers.

Fitted the IMU onto the 1199 upper fairing stay no problem with a couple of adapter spacer brackets. Also fitted a fibreglass air intake funnel for a 1199 to direct the air flow into the intake (This needed quite a bit of trimming until it fitted correctly as the IMU sensor sits in the way.

The finished article apart from I have some Carbon BST wheels to fit once i've ran her in.

So my overall opinion is that the 1199 fairings will fit with the addition of a few 1199 parts and a bit of adjustment.

Fairings are from MOTOXPRICAMBI and I highly recommend.

Mike.

Thanks for sharing Mike. Looks good. It may just be the angle of your pics but it looks like your new mount for the IMU is a little off vertical. There'll be accelerometer and gyros in there, so I'd be a bit wary initially to check correct function of ABS and DWC and Ohlins Smart EC (which all use IMU readings as inputs).

Absolutely awesome thread Mike!

Bike looks stunning in every way and all your hard work paid off VERY well man!

Quick question - What is your relevance with "Aruba.iT" which is on each side?
Are they a sponsor for you or is it something you personally own? :)

Again, congrats and can't wait to see some pics of you on all these serious race tracks you stated! Please post some up on this thread when you get some on this bike ok?

OOHRAH !

Gunny- Those fairings would be the 15' WSBK Ducati team replica design used by Chaz and Davide. :)

Looks great and thanks for the thread! Only question I have is with the tank cover and how does that fit around the gas cap without leaving space for fuel to spill and get between?

thats a great looking fairing kit. Also interested where you got those from. Did you get it painted it like that or it came already pre-painted?

Thanks...! The tank cover was a bit tight going on, its made of fibreglass so not much flex in it. I covered the tank with gaffer tape of all things to protect the paintwork, pushed it down as far as I could but still had a little gap in between...Probably could make it more flush but I wanted to make sure there was plenty of protection underneath. I'll just go careful with the fuel!;)

Thanks for the comments guys, wish I did own Aruba.IT!! HA

Just another update...

To clear the 'STOP LIGHT' warning on the dash I read on here about the resistor option but I just used a small 12v LED light which slotted in the block perfectly, taped it up and tucked it away in the tail.

Only problem i'm having with the MOTOXPRICAMBI fairings is with the tail unit. It sits on the seat bracket at the front and fastens with the 4 screws underneath but it puts a lot of load on a small contact patch which has split the fibreglass slightly. I have re-inforced it with steel washers but I was wondering what others have used on their track fairings?
