Just wondered where you guys shift these bikes riding around town. This is my first Ducati and I am finding that anything under 3500-4000 RPM bike just acts like its being lugged. It seems to be happy around 5-6K more often then not which just makes 6th Gear useless at US legal speeds?

When I first got the bike and was learning to ride it and get comfortable it seemed like at lower speeds you could get away at 3K-4K RPM under 50Mph around town, but if you are on highway it acts like it wants quite a few more revs on. So lately I have been running it up 5K-6K on the highway cruising along.

I know I could fart my S1K down at like 4K rpm and it was still pretty responsive even on highway is this just the nature of the SuperQuadro?

Are you guys finding the same?

The bikes suffer several "rideability" (don't think thats a word) issues. Electronic gremlins, inadequate cooling during restricted airflow engine management.etc The fueling is particularly fussy (emissions etc) You need a decent tune on the bike and you should get a tune commensurate with your riding envelope. Not everyone needs optimization at 11K and many times these full pull dyno tunes are not optimal for the casual street rider Adaptive tuning is a pretty solid option here. You get optimized fuel and ignition mapping for your application.

I have a Brentune in the bike and it’s certainly better than stock down low.

Just seems these big twins like some revs on to be happy.

My bike is quite nice down low. I can pin the throttle from 3k to right around 5k and then quickshift up. It explodes real nice and kinda sounds like a shot gun.

for a brutal twin, it’s somewhat smooth down low, but when u open up the throttle, it resembles my Harley. Dealer said it’s called “juttering” and it’s completely normal. I think they’re told to tell all customers that everything is normal

anyway, I don’t think ur lugging the engine. It wouldn’t put that much power out if it wasn’t supposed to be run at those RPMs
60mph on the highway in 6th gear, twist it wide open and see how quick it scoots you along. If there isn’t a big rush of power, maybe there’s something wrong with the tune/calibration

What gearing are you using? I have a 2016 R model that can ride around town pretty well at 3500 to 4000. Highway wise 6th gear is fine for just cruising along at 65 to 70. Now if I decide to give it the spurs in 6th at that speed and RPM id does take a bit until it launches and forces my eyeballs to the back of my head.

Even with the full Akra system and Ducati's up-map, mine was pretty bad down below 4K rpm too. I like to ride with the EBC off and I'm -1 on the front sprocket so it got pretty Kangarooey down low. A Tuneboy map fixed all that and the engine is smooth all the way down to idle when riding in any gear now and got more responsive anywhere in the rev range. The 1299 engines ran pretty bad from the factory so if yours is stock, I'd highly recommend getting some kind of tune.

^^ my scenario exactly! I was getting sick of the constant stalling at traffic lights and having to blip the throttle and rev it a bit while stationary in order to prevent the stall. I felt my bike was practically useless around town. I had a full custom TB dyno tune and the end result is quite astonishing. Buttery smooth but an absolute monster - 201RWHP, 96FtLbs of mayhem [emoji48]

Sweet, I’m gonna order my TB tomorrow I think . Where abouts did you get your bike dyno’d?

I cruise 3-4k rpm usually. stock tune was horrible there. Have a bren tune in there now and it can cruise 3k rpm very smoothly now.

the 1299 is definitely lumpy down low below 4k. Doesn't mean you can't cruise there if you want. I've found that I don't use 6th to cruise on the freeway until i'm going at least 75-80mph.

Definitely get a tuneboy to smooth out the fueling.

lumpy is a great way to describe it, same as the Harley but that bad thing gives a rush of torque down where it’s lumpy just like a tuned 1299 can do

glad it’s working out for u. I’ll be getting mine on a Dyno as soon as we are free and clear (next month? Next year?) I’m tired of this.
it’s good that you can feel the difference!

so what do u think @Hawk, OP? Is ur bike lumpy down low but still blasts off the line with loads more torque than ur S1000RR? Or does it bog down?
also, have u gotten it to pop and explode flames out the exhaust on upshift yet?

Only use mine on track and only kick the shifter up after seeing the red light blinking - works like a charm. It will stall and die in neutral though from time to time when i'm queuing up at pitlane :)

^^ Sorry it was all handled by my local Ducati workshop. I don't have a USB module.
