1299s shutting off?

Unplugging the exhaust servo motor will throw a code but not the light.,

This is not true. I installed a full Akra system 3 weeks ago and never had a code or a light on the dash for unplugging the exhaust servo motor. And before you ask. I just didnt unplug the servo motor. The entire servo system is gone box, servo, cable and misc parts that go along with it.

When I brought the bike to the dealer to have the Up map key loaded. No codes showed on the DDS either.

Cheers,
Blade

Well, when I went to the dealer for the 600 mile oil reset, they did indeed bring up that they can not clear the code for the exhaust valve motor being unplugged. Never threw anything on my dash.
but they could read it with there scanner.

No big deal, just saying.

Sorry I just reread my post. Me saying "This is not true" comes off a little curt. What I should say is that in my case this was not true. My apologizes.

Question for someone who may know. Does rapidbike evo void warranty (From Canada here).

Also does one endup losing all those features like engine break control the traditional way (ducati lcd menu) for some magic buttons one adds to the steering wheel?

My experience so far has been... Since it works downstream of the factory system it can be removed before you bring the bike in for warranty work. It does not adjust the factory ECU setting directly.
From what I have been told, It adjusts the A/F and timing downstream .. It sends a signal to the ECU telling it that it is within the factory parameters (so the ECU does not automatically step in and readjust it back to specks) like it would on the Power Commander or Bazzaz unit. Meanwhile downstream it is doing it magic and adjusting the A/F and timing etc and fine tuning as you ride.

Mine has done nothing but improve the way my bike runs.. and No it doesn't affect anything like engine braking or the quickshifter.. It simply automatically tunes the bike as you ride.. From what I was told, since it uses the stock Co2 sensors in it's process it also adjusts the lower to mid cruising range area that Bazzaz and Powercommander's do not..
So far the RapidBike Racing unit along with the Sprint filter has transformed my bike from a rough running, bucking and surging beast while riding around town at lower speeds into a MUCH smoother running bike and it seems to have more power across the full range.. I will have it on a Dyno again soon and see what the changes are..
One thing I like about it is it is constantly fine tuning the A /F depending on the temperature etc.. The more you ride it the better it seems to run..
When I first got it installed I rode the bike for about 30 miles and I was astounded how much better the bike ran. (Of course my bike was really running bad before that) and the dealer tried everything to correct it including reflashing the ECU
* I ordered the Rapid Bike Racing unit that was pre tuned with a base map for my set up with the Akropovic slip on's with the Ducati "UP Map" So it came with a good base map and ignition map in it.. Then it fine tuned itself from there. ( I was told that even with a zero base map it would self tuned within about 130 miles anyway.). pretty impressive.. So far it has been the best money I have spent performance wise..

Getting a tune on a Dyno will get the bike running great under the circumstances/temperatures and barometric pressure at the time of the tune during the Dyno run but when the temp and humidity etc. change so does the A/F ratios. I guess there are arguments both ways.. I am sure a good tuner can extract the most horsepower from a Dyno Tune however as things change outside so will the need to retune..I used to run land speed event with my ZX14 at the Texas Mile and I have seen many cases where guys had their laptops out trying to readjust for the changing conditions.. I like the idea of a self adjusting unit that keeps things optimum.. This is a new age we live in..

I am going just by what Yurman told me and what I read.

Thats speedy. Much info given.
My assumption now is the shutting issue comes from various reasons each their own like a different cancer virus.

1. Charcoal canister (overfilling fuel tank and/or condensation)

2. Air filter restrictions for emissions

3. Poor tuning (A/F ratios) to pass emissions (company owned by VW afterall and theyre under fire with emissions issues with software. This is a software issue also that needs a rapidbike for example to "assist" it on being tuned the way its suppose to be forgetting anything emissions standards. (Theory here, more air and less idle is a good emissions pass rating).

4. Dying battery

5. Your bike partied too hard at Club Ducati and is still hung over from last night, or last week.

So you can live with it huh? If it dies on you in the middle of traffic some day at the wrong time and place you might not LIVE at all!

Get ready another rant!!!

These are EXPENSIVE top of the line motorcycles WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO "LIVE WITH IT" The Ducati factory knows about this issue and does NOTHING to fix it. This will be my first and LAST Ducati... It simply isn't worth all the ......... Sure it is a Beautiful exotic bike but it's just not worth the money when you have to put up will all it's problems..

There are other bikes out there that will outrun it and outlast it (without near the upkeep cost and problems) My friends that have new BMW's and new R1's are laughing at me for spending so much money and no being able to ride with them.. For what I have invested in this one bike I could have literally bought two new R1's!

I can't imaging what it would cost me to keep mine running if it didn't have a warranty.. Maybe the older less complex models were better but from what I have experienced with mine (and what I have read from others) with 1199 and 1299's there is absolutely NO excuse for ANYONE to have to worry about their bike dying on them while they are riding in traffic and having to push their bike to the side of the road!!!!!!

If it was an old BSA or Triumph from the 60's with LUCAS Electronics I could understand it, but this is a new 2015 $25K+ $$$ motorcycle. Ducati better get their .... together or they are going to have a bad rep like they used to regarding upkeep.. Word gets out quick nowadays with all the social media..

They advertise longer service intervals for valve changes however they do not tell you that if you are one of the unlucky ones like me ( and many others evidently) you will have your bike in the shop over and over all the time..

The dealer has been great and they have done all they can but evidently they don't really know how to fix it. All they can do at this point is start replacing components.. . I usually have to drop the bike off and then leave it there about a week until the "Factory Rep" makes his way back to them and looks at it again.. They have already switched out a brand new factory ECU, of cours e changed settings on the throttle bodies etc Tried to remap the ECU (which made the factory warranty null and void according to the factory rep) That is why the dealer had to pay $1500 for a new ECU.. STILL NO change.. It still has the throttle sticking in first gear and still dies on me..

Now they are taking a complete throttle body off a new bike and installing it on mine to see if that is it.. Of course the bike has been there in the dealership's shop since last Tuesday and they haven't finished it yet.. it is always on the back burner... (They got to get the new bikes they just sold ready to deliver first you know..)

Their mechanic does not want to see me come in anymore.. I am sure he is tired o screwing with it.

The day I picked it up from having the new ECU installed and it died on me in the middle of 70mph traffic going home.....**If you live in the Austin area and ride on HWY 35 during rush hour then you know how scary that is..

If I don't get my bike running correctly soon I am going to file a lawsuit under the lemon law and either get my money back or another bike.. My bike has spent more weekends in the shop than In my garage at home.. I purchased mine last April and the first day I rode it, it died on me leaving the dealership! I wasn't even a block away from the dealer and I had to coast over to the side of the road and restart it.

Even if I get it fixed I will not keep it past the warranty period I just do not have any confidence in it anymore.

Sorry to be such sour grapes but I am fed up... You out there that don't have problems are VERY lucky that you get to enjoy your bike..

Speedy

Well speedy you seem to be a bit pissed off. Your problems are your problems and mine are mine, mine has never shut off at high speeds nor on a highway or anything of that crazy nature, so again I can live with it, I don't ..... and cry about small things that don't have huge impacts on me, I guess we were just brought up different. I was taught to not be a ..... about everything and deal with what you can deal with. NO BIKE is perfect! And yes you've purchased 1 of the most expensive bikes and it should run flawlessly but it doesn't, the good part about it as you've experienced is the dealer will do anything they can to fix what we they can for you. But hey, if you hate it that much might as well go buy that r1 or BMW. And go right under the radar lol. You buy a panigale because it's a ....... panigale! I've lined my bike up next to 5-8 other bikes many times and no matter what other hike is there, everyone gravitates to the panigale lol. Again you are clearly more upset than 90% of the rest of us, so do everyone on this forum a favor and go take your bike back, tell them what a piece of .... it is and how happy you'd be on a flawless r1 or BMW and go buy 1 of those [emoji106]

OK Jerk! Who pissed in your Post Toasties???

If your bike died on you in the middle of the freeway a couple of times in rush hour traffic then maybe you wouldn't think it was just a "little thing" and you might be a little pissed off too.. Especially if you got one that had all the other issues mine did.. Those other issues are finally fixed but it is still ridiculous to have a $25k + bike and never know when it may just stop on you in the middle of traffic..If that is a little thing to you then you are an .....!
You just got lucky and got one that didn't have problem Like MANY others on this site.. This site is for everyone to post on and talk about issues they are having.. Evidently you are tired of hearing about it.. Well STFU!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Hi, I just bought 2 identical 1299's. My girlfriend and I are in the drive-in phase and this problem has happened during every ride, but only with hers, and usually only once during the 3-4 hours that we are on the road. It's annoying but she just pulls the clutch and shifts into neutral so she can start up again while still rolling. It has only happened at low speeds, usually in 3rd gear and she wasn't using the QS at those low rpm's. Both bikes are going to the shop next week for the 1000km inspection and the mechanics are going to check everything to see what the problem could be. If I get any helpful info's, I'll post them- Cheers.

I too had the cut-out issue on my 13 1199. The removal of the charcoal canister and an updated piece of software that was loaded by dealer seemed to fix the problem and the bike has been good ever since. Thats all I can say about that.

I'm constantly reminded, as I'm sure all of us are, that this bike is a beast. It does not like being ridden slow. It doesn't like being ridden through traffic at traffic speeds. The more you ask of it the better it performs and sometime it actually demands it from the rider. I still get surge with a good tune via a RapidBike unit - solution? Stop putting, get on the gas and get through the gears. Brake hard, shift like you mean it and corner LAMF.

I know there are easier bikes to ride and there are a few things that are unforgivable like the stalling in traffic. That SUCKED. Im pretty sure a Honda or Yamaha will have better street manners and be okay with meandering - I've never ridden one. I'm sure they're also both very good in the canyons and on the track.

Im happy with my duc though - flaws and all because it puts a giant smile on my face MOST of the time. And sometimes I want to kick it in the face.

My small piece of advice is to remember that these are superbikes. Ride accordingly.

Hi, do you guys (with the shut-off problem) use after market clutch levers? There was a post in a German forum that suggests the problem might be caused by the pin under the Clutch lever not activating the switch on the underside of the handlebar.

The clutch switch has more to it than the dealer knows about. According to Mitsubishi, when engaged it has something to do with the QS and the fueling circuit. Try taping that thing engaged as see what happens to your ride. It is def tied to the TPS/Fueling

complete .........

There is a valve in the system that's controlled by the ECU. I just unplugged it and sealed it off with electrical tape and zipties. NOTHING remains of my charcoal canister system, except for that plug, and no codes at all. I yanked the secondary air injection system, unplugged and removed the valve - no codes or problems. Exhaust servo - unplugged and gone. No CEL, no codes.

+1. No codes. But this is also the same dealer that has fed me BS multiple times (like sizes of o2 sensors that don't even exist).

Another "That is just the way they are" or that is just the "Ducati Character" speech

I say ........! I have ridden more than 4 other 1299's that do not do what my bike does!

If you pay as much as we do for a 1299S No one should have to put up with that much BS NO ONE! No one(except a fool) l will believe a dealer that tells you that it is "just the way they are" This is supposed to be the premier motorcycle brand..!
As far as your advice to "just ride it hard". You simply cannot keep a bike over 7 000 rpm all the time..You can do that on a track but if you are riding mine on the street you cannot ride it like you describe without either getting arrested or in an accident..Sooner or later you need to go 30 to 45 mph....When you do it surges BADLY and will not hold a steady throttle setting..

I don't care what the motorcycle manufacturer it is, Japanese, German or Italian etc. they ALL should have a responsibility to the public to do something about a bike that is stalling in traffic.
That is friggin dangerous! I guarantee you one thing... If I ever get hurt in an accident due to the bike stalling in traffic there will definitely be a lawsuit against Ducati USA
My bikes stalling problems are well documented..... I have copies of multiple repair orders from the dealer stating they are trying to fix the stalling issue among other things..The dealer has been great however they are limited in what they can do unless the factory rep gives them permission to do or replace something under warranty..

The main problem is as far as I can tell is the Ducati factory/ organization won't even admit they have a problem and the factory rep just shrugs his head and says try this or try that but it NEVER fixes it..
This will be the first and last Ducati I ever buy unless someone can fix this issue.. I am fed up with screwing with it.. I cannot even count how many times it has been in the shop etc.. So far it has been a very beautiful looking but absolute total ..... to deal with..It is like dating a beautiful Italian supermodel... Expensive to buy and keep up (and expensive to accessorize) LOL , however NO matter how good a woman looks eventually you tired of their BS and I am getting to that point..!
I cold trade it in or sell it myself however the main problem is I will lose half of what I have in it if I try to sell it so I am either stuck with it (or take a $15k loss after investing over $30K in it.)

Sorry, just saw in another post that you have replaced the ECU or at least thatis what the dealer told you they did. Did they really? I guess all that is left is the wiring harness itself.

Yes they did replace the ECU ( I have the old one also...) I am contemplating getting the old one flashed and reinstalling it. It will work because it has the same serial number from the bike registered)
However changing the ECU did not fix the stalling issue the first time... So I might have a flashed ECU in it but it still stalls
Besides the Rapidbike Racing unit does a great job of increasing power so I doubt having the ECU flashed would make much difference and it is $400 to get it done by ECU Unleashed..

I'm really tired or throwing money at this thing.

Hi, it seems my stalling problem is solved- I cleaned the clutch switch (under the left handle bar) with contact spray and bent the pin from my V-Trec clutch lever so that it has better contact to the switch. It hasn't stalled once since then. Normally the switch is only supposed to tell the bike that the clutch is pulled while starting in gear, but with the 1299 it is also has something to do with the quickshifter- if a wrong signal is sent, the ignition might be killed.

Hi, after about a week, the stalling problem started happening again, so it didn't have anything to do with the clutch lever pin. In the meantime, my wife blew her engine and got a new one under warranty. The stalling problem was still there after the engine change, so it had to be caused by something other than the engine. Now we have found the real problem- the stalling was caused by a faulty Air Mass Sensor in the air box. If it sends a wrong reading to the ECU, the mixture isn't right (usually too rich) and it dies. Maybe that is the problem. We only caught it because it failed completely and the bike wouldn't start at all anymore. Hope this info helps, cheers from Ty.
