Bottoming out front forks. 260lbs. Intermediate rider level. Can’t push for more speed as the bike is nose diving under heavy breaking. Have played with compression with no success. Time for spring change?

Have you maxed the spring preload? If not then crank in a bit more preload on the spring. If so, you have 2 options, Option 1 change spring rates I believe the R (at least the 2016 R) came OEM with 10 N/mm fork springs Ohlins part number 04744-10. You can go up to a 10.5 or 11 part numbers 04744-05 for the 10.5 or 04744-11 for the 11 N/mm springs. A set of springs will probably set you back about $170 or so shipped to your front door. Changing springs is fairly easy on those forks and you don't have to remove them from the bike to do it. Or option 2 Lose weight yourself or on the bike.

Guys, thanks for responses. The weight loss responses are fair but I’m sitting at a 35in waist. Played D1 football and can’t lose what the weight room gave me. I’ll look into springs thanks

I actually just changed the front springs on mine. The previous owner must have changed them from OEM as I believe they were 11 N/mm which was too stiff for me.
You can also put different rate springs to fine tune it. I.e. an 11 N/mm in one leg and a 10 in the other leg giving you a total of 10.5 N/mm together.

Dive under heavy braking can be reduced by making changes to the air spring height.

The bottom line is, it's ideal to consider installing springs which suit the rider and conditions first, set sag and then fine-tune damping settings and valving.

I had the same problem, then realised the higher the number set on the Comp/Rebound, the LESS damping you have.
i.e. lower the number for more compression damping

I'm probably the only muppet to make such an assumption..
