Hello,

I’ve been the sole owner of my 2018 959 and took it in last week to Beverly Hills Ducati for a 15K Desmo service. Aside from the service, they replaced the rear break pads. The total was $2,100 and change. I picked up the bike and started to ride home (a 1.5 hour ride), but only a block off the lot and I noticed the ABS and DTC lights did not turn off after 3 MPH. I turned around and told them. It turns out the mechanic put the front tire on backwards so the sensor wasn’t registering (as it’s only on one side). Not super inspiring for my confidence in their work. It also means they didn’t test ride it after a major service.

Anyway, I’ve had it back for a week now and put an additional 500 miles on the bike (the ride home was 120 miles alone). On a short city ride (daily commute) I heard a faint odd sound. Soon it became an obvious whirring/whistle sound and my oil light went on while my engine temp jumped up to 248 F and then “Max.” I was only two blocks from home so I coasted as much as I could the rest of the way and parked it in the garage. There is no oil leak and I can’t see anything obviously wrong with the bike.

So, has anyone else had this issue (after this service or otherwise)? Two, what a pain in the ass this is going to be to fix as I am an hour and a half away from the dealership. I need to take it to a local mechanic (non-Ducati) who has done a basic service in the past on my bike, to see what is wrong. However, I’m almost certain that the dealership effed up the service. But there is NO WAY the dealership will pay for a pickup from my home to their dealership and back to fix this issue. That said, it could be an unrelated issue from the service, but I doubt it as I’ve never had an issue with my bike before.

Thoughts?

Trying to think where in the 1.5hr radius from BH Ducati you can live, so I can suggest NOT to go there ever again. That place is a joke, from sales to service. Corey left SB Ducati and is now at Wheels in Motion in Chatsworth. He is THE guy. That is for being up north out there. The rest will come down to the Newport Beach Ducati. Nowhere else, not even Pro Italia. My 2c

Did you ever find out what the problem is? I hope it is/wasn't the main bearing. That is the sound my 748 made before the main bearing went out and then the rod/piston started slapping the cylinder walls. $2.7k for bottom end rebuild.
