16' or 15'

Where in TX? I'd see what the price difference is between the two, if it's marginal, I'd buy the 16... There would need to be $1500+ difference for me to buy the older model year.

'15 and '16 are identical. '15 carry 0% financing until end of month. Even if you were planning on paying cash, finance it and re-invest the money. You'll save about $3k over the life of the loan (based on 60mo at 3.99%), reinvest well and you could easily doubly that savings.

Based on my first year 1199 experience I would say buy the 16, might be less teething problems.

I've taken my 15' 1299 in 3 times for warranty fixes within the last 10 months. I also live in New England, so that's all within a shortened season.
Just sayin'.

That's interesting. I had a 12 S and went in few times for warranty update or fix, but I would've thought 15 should be almost 100% good to go.

My bike came into SA as a 16 reg January this year, but I see it was built in October last year? Does that then make it technically a 2015 model? With the dealer assuring me it's a 16 model.

Bought mine end 15 but registered 16 and I can confirm, I noticed no difference between the two.[emoji4]

I've had a small electrical glitch on my 15 since picking up a year ago.
It has had over 2 months in the workshop in that time and is still not
guaranteed as sorted out.
Have heard of a few similar issues.
I would go 16 unless the discount is 10-15% of the bike price.

Most vehicles in the beginning of the year are manufactured in the previous year- this is common with everything not just Ducati- so I'm sure he's correct. They wouldn't sell you on a 16 and the title say a 15- also even if it was made in 15 IF they did make any changes to the 16 mode- seen or unseen- it'll still be there because they would have changed their manufacturing process before the started rolling any 16 models off the floor

thanks everybody, have had a few ducks in the past)888 SPO,996s and 999s so its been a bit since I had one but getting the bug.been thru a bunch of jap inlines and an MV.have a rc8r now.also was checking out RSV4s . but definitely leaning towards the 1299 base.saw in Houston they had a 15 for 17999. but sounds like the 16 is the way to go.:)

Not sure why the '16 sounds like the way to go as they are identical bikes. Any issue you might have with a '15 will be there with a
'16.

Id go 16...if the difference is only 1500. I would go with a 2015 if the difference were 3000 range. You can check my posts, but I think I paid 17,400ish for my base 1299 last year...hope that helps establish a base (no pun intended) foundation for you.

so if the 15 had a few glitches, the 16 would too? and your right about saving money to go towards exhaust. bike in Houston also comes with store credit. $1200 to $1500 I think. damn. ready to pull trigger. wanted to keep the the rc8r but may have to trade.not sure if wife will let me keep both. thanks for yalls info;)

This.

The bikes are identical.

People always think the 2nd year is the "best year" because they have "worked out all the glitches", I see that all the time when there is a new model introduced on everything from bikes to vehicles to lawn mowers.

But that is only true if they actually changed something. In most cases (like with the 1299), the bike is the same. If there was some type of manufacturing defect with the 2015, then they would have issued a recall for the 2015 and then changed it for the production of the 2016s. But as far as I am aware, that isn't the case.

Sure, a few people might have glitches or mechanical issues, but that happens randomly with every model of every bike from every manufacturer; sometimes .... happens. But they don't "go back to the drawing board" just because of random glitches that a few people might have.

So unless there was some major discrepancy with the 2015 that would have required Ducati to issue a recall and change the part/design going forward, then the 2016 will be identical to the 2015.
