I just purchased an Oberon clutch slave cylinder for my bike and was trying to install last night but have a question? The instructions from Oberon say to reuse the plastic grommet from the original slave? It won't fit in the Oberon one, and if I used the stock one the bots they supply with the cylinder would not fit, they would be way too long. I just want to make sure I'm not going to mess anything up if I use the one Oberon supplies? I know it's what stops the rod from spinning. If anyone can help let me know and thank you in advance.

That's peculiar as the 1199 and 1299 use the identical clutch slave. When I installed the Oberon unit on my bike, I transferred the anti-rotation insert from the OEM slave into the Oberon unit without any problems. The supplied fasteners were okay as well. Check the fit of the anti-rotation insert again. Compare it against a picture in the shop manual.

Oberon updated their slave cylinders. Now all you have to do is pop yours out and install the Oberon. No need to swap anything over. If you tired to re-use your original anti-directional grommet it would not work. The instructions that come with the cylinder are outdated. Works like a charm though. Thanks.

Just got mine in the mail today.... it has an additional bracket that mounts between the case and the cylinder. I'm assuming this is the updated unit. Nice design, can't wait to try it out.

So what did you think? Have you gotten to try it yet? I installed one on my V4 Speciale and love the lighter pull. I'm thinking of adding one on my 1299 now.

Yes that's correct. the only down side is your wallet will have $180.00 less in it....:D

I don't notice a heavy clutch feel and given the quickshift allows for so many shifts without clutch. I'm not understanding the value.

Is it long term use like a long track session?

It’s rider preference. At some point you'll have to stop the bike and start going again track riding or not. And installing the larger slave cylinder makes the lever pull much easier. I like to optimize my bikes to make them work the best they can in all situations. Especially if you ride on the street and ever get in traffic then this mod is huge.

Oh I get it. And in a traffic jam I can certainly see it.

as i understand it, this will help with those who need to bleed their clutch every couple of weeks or so.

I haven't had to bleed my master on my 1299. But I did on my Speciale. I brought her in for some recalls and they were going to change the stainless steel line from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder so I had them install the Oberon slave at the same time. She's been fine so far. But I also haven't gotten a chance to really ride her because of all the freaking rain we've been having.

lucky if you don't have that problem.

eventually it gets very hard to find neutral, it's choppy to shift while riding, and at a stop light, i can barely get it into neutral and my bike is actually trying to drive away. bleed the master using my speedbleeder takes 10 seconds and all is fixed....for about a month.

I put a small spanner and rag in rear cowl and can bleed on a ride. Very quick but yes often.

.... sorry to hear that man. Not sure it would work but you might want to try and use the V4 updated SS line. They say is one or two millimeters smaller and it stops that problem on the V4 and so for for me it's working. It might work on the 1299 also.
