i always measure from the top of triple....am i doing it wrong guys?

No, the service manual only lists the distance from the triple.
In my notes for my 21 V4S I measured from the top of the top clamp.

Are you sure that's accurate for a 2018? The later models were higher.

Mine measured 4mm, but its a '21. I don't think the 2018 models were like that.

bp_SFV4 is correct. 2018s were lower in the front end (meaning more forks were showing past the upper triple). They raised the front end for the later bikes so less forks will be showing.

What is the difference in handling by doing this and how is it sitting on the bike is it more comfortable or the same feel

Raising the front end (by lowering the forks in the triples) increases stability at the expense of turn-in/agility. However, its a very subtle change and a fine-tuning method, it is not a night and day difference.

RE: my 2012 1199S, I raised my front end by dropping the forks to flush with the top triple—totally ruined turn-in— bike is virtually in-rideable. I did this for comfort. By the way— in doing so, it made the seat too high in front and very uncomfortable.
So, need to lower front back to stock setting. Does anybody have the factory specification for this please? If memory serves, seems like about 3mm of fork was exposed.
