You lost me here
Didn't Ducati release V4 SP just last year ?
Are they already making SP2 version on new V4 platform ?

Uhmm yes. Yes they are.
Ducati is releasing a V4SP”2” for 2022. Ducati already made some changes to the V4/V4S, so instead of just calling the next SP version the 2022 “V4SP”, Ducati decided to call it the V4 SP2…. Rumor says the SP2 is better(?) for track use.

Wow haha [emoji23] I didn’t quite buy into the Ducati cringe until now as I’m a new owner.

Well this has tipped the scale for me… after drooling over the ‘22 V4 I’m now defecting and getting myself an R1

After waiting for close to a year to get my (numbered but not limited) V4SP, I do find it disappointing that they announce a new "better version" when I've only had mine a few months. It leaves a bit of sour taste in my mouth.

Sounds like you are being ungrateful. You are very lucky to be able to afford such a bike and even luckier to have been able to secure one. I tried to buy one and was laughed at by my dealer.

The delay for you getting your bike was due to the pandemic so blame china, not ducati.

Also these improvements are what makes Ducati's bikes so great, and your hurt feelings is a small price to pay for such greatness.

This is the way of the world, every year there is a new improved bike but Ill let you in on a little secret; There is only so much contact patch and pretty much all litre bikes since the mid 00's are as fast as each other up to about 120 mph with a few minor variations, and a good rider on a well set up bike from any manufacturer from then to now will eat a poorly ridden 2022 bike. Your SP is still one of the best sports bikes ever so enjoy it, motorcycling journos are also well used sluts and will tell you that this years bike is AWESOME after they are paid to ride around beautiful tracks, eat manufacturers food and drink their beers.

There’s an adage:

“A customer is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so.”

I appreciate the products Ducati produces, but the relationship between manufacturer and consumer is a two-way street, and it’s entirely reasonable for us to have expectations. I can understand how current SP owners might feel a little slighted by the release of an SP2 so quickly.

when the V4 came out in one year the came out with a base V4, Speciale, V4S, V4 Corse + V4R. So while a black V4 with some bits is cool, don't be surprised at a not at all new product line strategy from Ducati.

The problem with next year’s bike is you can only buy it next year. Then it’ll be this year’s bike and next year’s bike will be coming.

I wonder if the Ducati Panigale will be their Porsche 911 where its just more developments but no really huge changes.

Wait till the ebike makes this all irrelevant. I consider myself fairly “up to date” with the good stuff and I can tell you personally, the last gas bike I built was the last gas bike I will ever build.
