950SP stalling problem

I purchased a 950SP this spring. During the 600 miles service I had the full Termi race exhaust installed. Bike ran really well at first except for a little bit of surging at steady throttle. The fueling slowly deteriorated and began to randomly stall when coming to a stop when the clutch was pulled in. Bike was at the dealer for a month. Diagnostics are telling them the horizontal cylinder is rich. O2 sensor and plugs replaced. No help. Diagnostics have been sent to Italy to be analyzed. After 1 month of bike being at the shop, I asked them to put the stock exhaust back on. I rode the bike this morning and it ran better but still stalled 3 times.

Is there anyone else having similar issues? Today it was 63 degrees Fahrenheit and the bike never got over 157 degrees. What temps are you guys seeing after normal running time?

Appreciate any help on this.

YES!!!!!!!! ME!!!!!!! IT has been driving me fu@king insane!!! My dealer asked me to drop it off, but I haven’t had a chance. I will this week and I’ll report back. It’s a real shame because the bike is awesome otherwise. Suspension is on par with my pikes peak. It’s also a little wheelie monster. But that aside, when I pull in the clutch, the revs drop too low and it cuts out. I think the issue is either fueling, throttle by wire, quick shifter or a combo of the above.
PLEASE keep me posted.

**edit: my bike is all stock.

Thanks Moondog. I will be bringing my Hyper back to the dealer this week. I will update this post when something changes. I did read in another forum that a guy said something about the TPS on the handlebar being a possible reason for the stalling.

So, the TPS is the culprit? Makes sense.

In one anecdote, seems to be the TPS.

I have had a few unexplained stalls and occasional hard starting followed by low idling rpm then stall.

Not a consistent problem but definitely not something I had on other bikes including other ducatis.

It's happened to me once, but after owning a 690 SMC, once is nothing. If it gets worse or more frequent, then I'll seek assistance.

So after waiting a total of 5 weeks the Northeast tech rep finally showed up at the dealership. They used a demo Hyper for parts and began swapping them in. When they installed new Throttle bodies the bike ran noticeably better. They test rode it and delivered the bike back to me.

I've put approx 250miles on the bike so far and it runs good. The full Termi exhaust sounds really good. I'm leaving the DB killer in for street riding.

Moondog I hope this info helps you out. The throttle blades were slightly etched and small amounts of carbon streaking were present. They do not know what caused it. I will continue to run the same 91 octane non-ethanol fuel and update you on any changes.

..... They're claiming a possible ECU issue. My dealer is awesome and they are the reason I'm so calm. I can't say enough good about them. According to the dealer, there is a bulletin out (finally). So it appears they may need a fix from the factory if there isn't one already. I will keep you posted but won't know until later this week or early next. boooooo! I really wanted to ride this weekend.

Bulletin out about the stalling issue? Do you have a link to that?

Got my bike back. ECU was replaced and accused as the culprit.
Took a 50 mile ride and the way back home and tried hard to make it stall.
It felt great and I’ll keep all posted if it stalls again.
Hope this helps some folks with this issue.

UPDATE:
Throttle bodies needed to be cleaned out. Some folks have had theirs replaced, but so far so good on my bike.

Mine is going to the dealer in the next few weeks. Bike is coming up on a year old and stalling issue is getting worse. So I will take it in for the 1 year service and to resolve the stalling problem.

Dropped my bike off at the dealer today and already this afternoon they called to let me know the problem was the throttle bodies and Ducati will cover replacement. I am impressed by how fast they worked! The problem is that there will be some unknown delay to get new throttle bodies because of the corona virus. Oh well. I have other bikes so can wait, and the world has bigger problems at the moment.

My bike has been at the dealer for a month now. The throttle bodies arrived maybe 10 days after I dropped the bike off. I called last week and was told they would start working on my bike that afternoon or the next day. Very frustrating. First time I have used this dealership since the other two good ones were part of a group of dealerships owned by a Microsoft VP who mismanaged them and went bankrupt last year. I am trying to be patient due to the pandemic, but also I am wondering what's going on. Uggh. Still have my KTM 790 adventure bike to ride, but I do miss the Hyper a lot.
