Big gripe from me is that although I think the base 1199 is the best 1199..:D..The stock steering damper is garbage...Even my ZX10 had an Ohlins...Anyway I just bought the Oem Ohlins damper from a good friend...Anyone done this?? Notice an improvement in reduction of head shake?? Hopefully this is an effective upgrade???? FYI...I am aware of other manufacturers but I felt I wanted to go Ohlins..:p

Thanks for the quick decision and I will throw in a set of BSTs with the damper when I mail it out to ya brother!

Before anyone complains about this thread (or my reply) belonging in the Marketplace- the steering damper was my own personal one taken off my Tri and I am glad it's going to a good home! :)

Yep it's pretty crappy that you couldn't not adjust them. I put on the aftermarket Ohlins steering dampener to compensate for the light BST wheels. Helped out greatly between slow speed riding and high speed with just a little twist of the knob.

Sorry Stw, since I have the crappier S model I cant give you a comparison. :D I can say the damper on the S has been good and stable for me and my riding abilities which includes a couple track days with no big head shakes.

Just a word of caution STW,

Headshake usually caused by suspension issues. If you're getting a lot of frequent incidents of headshake (not intensity), I'd look at fixing the suspension before dialing in the steering damping.
Steering dampers are good things. But make sure you know what the underlying problem is first. Steering dampers too often are used to hide problems.

Charlie...

Thank you for that ..... I would say that the head shake is in part due to the ...... damper but replacing it and then getting my suspension dialled in would be a smart move on my part....

got the Ö on mine, too.

only difference to the base one is, it's set to way less damping right now :D

Phil....Did you find it improved high speed stability at all????

I swapped out my base damper for the ohlins. A lot more stable at all speeds and it greatly helped with head shake, especially with the BST wheels

i never ride that fast, can't tell. i do 160mph max, don't know what it does at speed...

Once you get the suspension dialed in I can say that its very stable up to 174 :)

Even with it dialed it the bike still wiggles the front end when you are driving hard off the corner and the front end gets light.

Half the fun is ripping over a crest and getting some headshake :D

Can be.....but can also cringe your butt hole.... I am too old for too many of those moments...:)

Good idea to ride with a pair of "depends" underneath? Ya ol' fart! :D

I'll probably do this upgrade as well once I do my fgrt203 upgrade.
