Adjusting shift rod

Anybody got any insight?

During the race build they installed Lightech rearsets which converted the bike to GP shifting while keeping all the OEM sensors/etc.

I need to move the shift lever down, but can't seem to get it done.

On all my other ones, you break the nuts on both ends of the shift rod, then rotate the shift rod in either direction till you get it where you want it, then tighten the nuts.

This one only has the nut on one end. In the manual it said to loosen that nut, then put a wrench on the flats/hex area about halfway up the shift rod and turn it. But first of all, that .... is behind the frame and almost impossible to get a wrench on, then when I did, it is fixed. The shift rod didn't/doesnt rotate at all.

What am I missing?

It doesn't turn, the rod I mean. You have to release rod from brake lever and turn the rod end. PITA to adjust, luckily basically you have to do it once.

I assume you meant you have to release the Rod from the "Shift lever"?

I looked at removing it where the it went onto the trans linkage and just moving it down one spindle, but couldn't get that off because of stuff behind it. And removing the Rod from the Lightech rearsets will also be a big PITA.

I can't believe they couldn't have a system like every other ....... bike where you can just rotate the shift rod and be done with it. Sometimes you have to make an adjustment quickly on hot pit or between races. I cant believe I will have to take the rearsets off just to adjust the shift rod.

Yes, wrote something and meant the other. And I totally agree, it is poor design. Oh well, few things like this do no mean anything to me, still love the bike.

From what I've read elsewhere and also from my own experience, this linkage is threadlocked to a serious level of overkill.

Its mentioned on a few other places on the net that folk have damaged the whole lot trying to slacken it off.
I gave up on my initial try as it was going to require some heat, and never went back to it later.

So the part I am thinking about actually IS supposed to rotate and be adjustable, but it cant because it is too tight and locked up like 2 dogs .......?

Yeah, there is an instruction in the manual. Page 242 for the S.

Sorry, but at work and cant get the page to post up here.

I saw it in the manual and it seemed straight forward....until I went to actually do it and nothing rotated.

Yup. I trashed my original sensor trying to get the damn thing apart. Ended up replacing both the rod and the sensor because - even after removing it and clamping the rod in a vice - can't get them to separate.

Wow, ain't that some .....

So apparently my only option is to remove the rearsets, take the rear end of the rod off and rotate it, then reassembly the rearsets.

Yup, it is. Had the same reaction as you the first day I had my 1199 3+ years ago and tried to adjust the foot controls. Couldn't believe how fiddly something that simple to adjust could be made by poor design. Took it to be a harbinger of the rest of the bike's design for serviceability, and that has proved to be so in most, but thankfully not all, cases. Ca-Razy...

I bought the Corse Dynamics rod as soon as it hit the market, so problemthatnevershouldhaveexisted was solved!

Well .....

When I get home I will see about adjusting mine and if it is going to be an apparent PITA, then ill order the Corse rod.

It should be a one time thing. So maybe I can take it off, get it set right, put it back and be done with it.

When I changed my rearsets I took the rod/sensor to the dealership to break it loose as I was afraid of damaging it cause it wouldn't budge. Much easier to adjust my RSV4 Woodcraft rearsets

I mean honestly, it is a shift rod. It is almost like sometimes they make .... extra difficult and over-engineered just for the sake of being different.

Is this shift rod part of the Lightech rear set or the 1299?

I am still waiting for my Woodcraft rear sets...why didn't you go with woodcraft this time, Chris?

Is your Race bike 100% done now? Would love to see some pics. Mine is nearly done (I think).

That's a smart move. The damn replacement Domino sensor is a $400 part from Ducati. Smart money to let your dealer do it based on the price of a failed attempt.

Nope this is the OEM shift rod. The rearsets don't replace the rod.

I went with Lightech because of how they convert to GP easily while using all of the OEM sensors and ..... But mostly because they have more Up and Forward adjustability.

The bike is 95% complete. I havent posted any pictures because im waiting on the sponsor decals to be finished and installed. But other than that all it needs is the dyno tune for race fuel and it will be ready for the season opener in Feb.
