I have searched the forum and was not able to find the information I am after.

Does anyone know how many decibels the removable baffles/silencers actually reduce when installed ?

I am having the evolution system installed on my 1299S soon and i am undecided weather to remove them or leave them in given it sounds like removing them before installation of the exhaust is a far easier way to remove them.

Thank you all

Not much. These are louddd....with or without them. I don't have them in. Removed them before I installed the exhaust. In fact, I ended up selling the silencers to a forum member here since I don't plan on ever using them. Sounds much better without it.

Well, in Europe the officials are more strict on noise. Drive without them in Switzerland and you easilly get around 2000$ ticket which has to be paid immediately or they confiscate your bike. In Austria, Germany and many others killers are mandatory as well. In Finland they even test the noise and have seen plates taken off. Then you put OEM pipes and have inspected until you get the plate back, of course with heavy ticket.

In Italy though, the police stopped me and wanted to take photos from them and Ducati, because it is beautiful Italian bike. And they gave me a hint where not to drive too fast on that day. :)

Even with killers my bike is getting a lot of unwanted attention and been considering trying to make smaller diameter noise killers.

Went for a ride today and after a stop, I did not put in one of my earplugs correctly. Had to stop and put it in. Too loud for me otherwise.
I have the DB killers in. Arai Corsair 5.

Maybe I am just a ..... but I need the earplugs. Already have Tinnitus in left ear from shooting so need all the protection I can get.

Love my Akra:)

Yep. Riding with or without DB killers (Arai Corse Carbon RX7) drives me nuts on german highways. Even with earplugs I have to stop after 2 hours going with more than 120km/h, due to vibrations on my breast. Feels like my heart starts synchronizing with the engine :)

BTW: it's easy to install/deinstall the DB killers without removing fairings or even the cans.

This could be written by me. I've got exactly the same, except both ears are ringing. Nowadays I use earplugs and earmuffs whenever shooting. I think Akra is too loud even with killers and earplugs, at the racetrack I remove killers to get heat away more efficiently.

20 years of riding Italian bikes with aftermarket exhausts and a phase in my life where we shot out 155mm projectiles have my ears ringing ever since...

And my open cans don't really help in this regard.

If you want real noise reduction in your akras, have a fabricator mid your db-inserts for more length (if possible and reduced diameters with blocked passages

About to put a full Akra on and this is not what I wanna hear lol. I like to do long rides and I definitely don't want to be fighting with the noise. I always ride with earplugs, might have to jam them a bit deeper lol

Funny how we all want more bass and tumble, then we complain about it :D

Well considering my hearing is extremely important to me and with the responses others have given I am going to leave them in !!! Thanks everyone

No complaints about Akra here. I think its great. Saves weight, looks good, and sounds great. I even wore earplugs with the OEM exhaust. Just gotta save that hearing. I use earplugs, mowing, drilling, hedging, grinding and any use of power tools.

I have measured mine today: 106 Db (Akra slip on with mufflers in, flapper valve and flapper axle completely removed)
I am often going into Germany and the German "Polizei" does not like loud exhausts....

How did you measure? at 5,250/min and microphone in 45° angle 0.5 m from opening? (see attachment)

Which measuring equipment did you use?

Approximately like you describe, measured on an iPhone:( with a Db app, of course not scientifically proven. It gives a rough estimate, a best guess.

If the German "Polizei" catches me, they will F**k me, (106 DB is) to loud and me being a Dutchman:)

No idea if iPhone with dB app measures correctly in this dB range...

If so, you are OK, the stationary noise level stated by manufacturer of the 1299 is 108 dB(A) at 5,250/min (on the type approval sticker), measured in the discribed position and distances from exhaust opening: Hold 5,250/min, than quick throttle off. Result is the highest dB(A) level.

Additionally, there is a tolerance of +5 dB(A), so the "Polizei" could measure even up to 113 dB(A) until you should get a problem.

One possible concern even if noise is within allowed limit can be that there is no e-approval no. on the silencers. But you must be very unlucky that this is blamed by "Polizei".

Reduce by, no. But I can tell you the Akra EVO system on a 2014 1199 R came out at 108 db at a track day.

As the gentleman already said, testing methods and equipment will provide different results

959 exhaust gives big clues to the way Ducati's new and future bikes now have to conform

Hi. I have the full system on my 1299. I raced at croft in April 2nd/3rd and failed a static sound test @106.5db however they let me through and tested on drive by instead.
The issue I have is the bike is pure track/race therefore I have had to send off the db killers to simmy cans to try and manufacture a baffle to reduce it to <102db for track days, hopefully I will try theses out at a no limits circuit later this month. I will let you know on the static db.
Regards
Davy

Davyc, what did they exactly change on the Db killer, did they make just a smaller hole?
