Akrapovic Full Exhaust Questions

As my first 600 mile service is approaching, I have been thinking about having the dealer install an Akra titanium full system on my 1299S. However, I do have a few questions, before I commit to it:

1) Besides weight savings, are there any other benefits? For example: noticeable performance increase across a specific RPM range, fuel economy, etc.

2) Would having the system increase resale value?

3) Out of curiosity: when you program the ECU with the update map for the system, does it add anything to the dash on startup? For example, I've seen some bikes where the word "Racing" or "Race" scrolls across the panel when you turn the key to 'On'.

Thanks in advance for any info...

1. Exhaust alone does not bring any power gains anybody vould really notice. Increase is max 2%. However, fuel mapping is usually bringing more midrange. OEM mapping is usually done along with noise level and emissions measured in certain rpm.

2. You put 3,5k into exhaust and yes, after two years you might get 300-500 more.

3. No.

But I have it because:

1. It is beautifully crafted. Looks cool.
2. Although I hate noise, sound is much better than OEM
3. I do a lot of track riding, it allows heat to flow out better than OEM

There are gains in hp and tq. Noticeable? My butt dyno doesn't think so.

Your dash will read "Racing Evo" if the Ducati Upmap installed. While the Upmap is definitely an improvement over OEM, it's still much better to go aftermarket if tuning/fueling is of concern. Upmap is plenty good though for most. The bike itself is plenty for most but that's totally up to you.

If you're talkin about adding resale value WITH the exhaust on the bike at time of sale, nope. Would be a total waste of your money to sell bike with exhaust on it. Most people remove the exhaust n sell that separately. You can easily get $2000 back selling it by itself but it won't add anywhere near that in bike's value if you include it with the bike.

The system I am looking at, sells for about 5K; advertised as made by Akra specifically for Ducati. They say it includes an UPMAP key for the system -- is this what you call the Ducati UPMAP?

Yes, but you need the dealer to upload it with their DDS

Correct with the 1299S the Dealer MUST install the UPMAP key. There is no way around this like it was with the 1199. However I dont know of a dealer that would charge to install the UPMAP key. Mine dealer just said give us a few mins to get your bike in and no charge.

Thanks for all the info guys; now I'm just wondering if the full system is worth it, or should I save some $$ and just buy the Akra slip-on silencer kit for the 1299 instead?....

The Akra slip on for the 1299 can only be purchased exclusively through the dealer, I talked to Akrapovic about it.

The dealer charges $3800 for the slip on. You can find a 1199 Evo full system for less than that and it fits perfectly, although it won't come with an UPMAP.

Hi there , hey does anyone know if the AKRAPOVIC # 96480781A headers / manifold fit to the AKRAPOVIC slip on system # 96480771A

Just buy a full Akra anywhere but from the dealer and fit it yourself. The instructions are particularly good and if you take your time and can thread a nut onto a bolt you will have no trouble.

I do not think you need the upmap. You will save lots of weight and it will sound better. There will be a power increase but you will not notice it.

Besides weight you will save money.

Sounds like you want it and are just looking for some rational reason to spend the money. There really is no rational reason, unless you were given a $4k credit to Revzilla that expires tomorrow at midnight.

It will run you $3500 if you put it on yourself to over 5K if you have it installed for you and run an aftermarket fuel unit. Thieves will be very attracted, because that exhaust alone will be worth as much on eBay as the rest of your bike. And in all seriousness, for the coin you spend you're going to need to get an extra 30mpg to get any sort of ROI before 2020.

But with all that said, who gives a .... about rational. If you have the money and want it, buy it. You don't need any more reason than that. And if you try and convince yourself that it will somehow magically transform power or MPG, you'll only be disappointed.

This.

If we are discussing street bikes/riding, there is absolutely no good, rational, logical reason to install a full exhaust. It is a complete waste of money.

It will not increase the resale value, your ride through the mountains or to the store will not be any faster or different, you can't even see the exhaust when riding the bike, and the general public (other people on the road) wont notice a difference or even know what they are looking at.

Unless you are racing, there is absolutely no reason to install a full exhaust.

...but if we were all concerned with logic, we would be on Jap bikes or Sport Touring bikes. So there is that.

If you have the money and want to get a full exhaust, then do it. But don't do it with the assumption that it is going to make you a better/faster rider, or make your bike worth more, or give you a noticeable increase in performance.

All an akra is good for is a harder boner.
So is viagra.

But then, besides that, there are other options that don't cost 1/10th of the average American annual income :D

Stock exhaust vs akrapovic - sound

Hi Guys,

I'm just new here.

I just bought a 1299 and would like to make the stock exhaust sound a bit louder.
I would like it to be louder at idle as well as a more pronounced sound (deeper bass) when doing downshifts with the quickshift so that it pops more.

Can this be achieved with a modification to the stock exhaust and what exactly needs to be done? Does it void the warranty?

Furthermore, what is precisely the difference ik sound between a modification to the stock exhaust and buying the Akra slip-on.

Also is there a difference in sound between the akrapovich slip on or the full exhaust system.

Thanks

Contact Phl (moderator) he is the man to talk to to change your stock exhaust in to something special.

Hi yes there is a noticeable change in sound with just the Akra slip ons . Mine where fitted at 1000 km
My Akra headers were fitted last week at 16 000 km

standard at the rear wheel 175 full akrapovic 192 rear wheel i think that answers all questions

I fitted a full system and did before and after dyno.

It went up about 8 HP

To all those who run a full exhaust on their ducati, no brand in particular, how tolerable is the smell? After you get home from a ride, can you smell the exhaust fumes on your riding gear?

The reason I ask is because on my 08 R1 any time I go for a ride, my gear smells like exhaust fume afterwords. And, I promised myself that I will never again get a full exhaust for a street use, as few extra ponies over a slipon system and a tune are just not worth it to me. But, Since I don't have any experience with the 1199/1299 and the exhaust being vented on the bottom, I wanted to get some input from the those of you that have experience.

I am guessing at this but if it is anything like modding your car for racing, I imagine you will smell more like a grease monkey racer type.
