From the very first weekend and 1,200-mile ride, I posted the issue of poor starting when hot/warm, and many of you have also had the same issue.

I am now happy to report that for more than two months, I have not had the issue. I think this may be related to having finally broken in the engine and the way I have been riding it.

First 1,500 miles: I was very diligent in following the break-in instructions from Ducati, keeping it under 6K for the first 621 miles and under 7K for the first 1,500 miles. I used all of the gears and varyied the load on the engine.

Now at 3,450 miles: For the last couple of months I have been redlining the engine in the first two gears and pretty much have been riding it only in the first three gears -- because I am on public roads and 10K in third gear is (would be, I am told) stupid fast (yet fun). :)

Anyway, in discussions with my dealer over the weekend they told me that Ducati "unofficially” told them that they think the poor starting issue was a function of the bike not being ridden hard enough; that is, ridden as instructed by the break-in procedure.

So, if you are still having the issue of the bike having starting issues when hot/warm, try riding it to redline in each gear and using that glorious top end and let us know if that makes a difference after a while. It did for me.

When I picked up my bike my dealer said to let it warm up a bit then ride it like i stole it. Haven't had a problem thus far.

Styler, I've enjoyed reading your Panigale reviews/posts. You're a gifted writer. Glad to hear you're not having this problem anymore and enjoying the 1199 motor. Fortunately for me I haven't experienced the hard starting issue. I now have a little over 2500 miles on the odo and am riding it in a similar fashion as you describe. And oh hell ya, It's FUN and damn hard to keep the front wheel down. The power wheelies are awesome. I've done a few track day's at The Ridge and ORP and can truely say to really appreciate this amazing machine take it to the track. The Ducati 1199 Panigale S is an awesome, amazing motorcycle.

My hard-starting issues seemed to have disappeared around the 4k-5000 mile mark. Hard to say because it's not as hot as it was, but even under 'normal' starting it seems like it cranks over easier and is less temperamental.

I haven't had the issue since removing the charcoal canister. Then again I haven't been on my bike in over a month.

Good information!:):)

My Pani saw 10K rpm from its first ride during break in, basically I just rode the bike the same as I always ride but constantly varying RPM. Had no smoke on startup, no hard starts when the engine is warm, no issues whatsover. Looking at the oil level it seems that after 400 miles a little oil has been consumed but only a tiny bit. My dealer said basically break the bike in like you normally ride, and dont worry about the 6k limit.

Mine has been no problem at all, that was until last week when it was very reluctant to start while still hot after a track session. It did fire-up after I cranked it over for a while, but it wasn't keen. Hasn't happened before or since. This was at 3000 or so miles and not during run-in.

Don't let Gunny Fitz see this or he'll be all over this with the biggest "I told you so" ever!!!!!!!! :D

I never had this issue and then after 600 miles it started creeping in and appears to be getting worse i.e. it does it hot or cold unless I've left the bike for at least 20-30 mins before trying a start. It does fire imediately if I give the throttle a twist with the starter though?
