No matter how many times I bleed the rear, it's totally shot. Is it just me, or are the factory brakes and clutch master on this bike complete junk? I love this 1299S, but its the absolute worse bike I've owned in my whole life for the hydraulics that it comes with.

Who can link me to a rear brake that is actually going to work please! I changed the clutch and front master already, clutch slave, and now this rear brake soon.

Did you remove rear brake caliper from carrier to bleed correctly? Do things wrong and you'll chase your tail all day. Can also bleed off the top of the rear brake master cylinder. The bleed points aren't always at the highest points where the air bubbles sit.

Sure did, this was never a problem when the bike was newer. Now that it's older, I actually have no brake left at all, its as if the internals are completed rotted away.

Who actually uses rear brake on superbikes ?

thinking same thing...been riding superbikes since 2000, due to injury have never been able to use my rear break (cant bend knee enough to put toes on the pedal). Odd thing is, after a recent knee surgery this year, first time ive been able to use the rear.....after a couple uses..and some trail braking, i was like ya...i wasnt missing anything at all haha

Why would you not use the rear brake? Isn’t it there for a reason?
Mine is literally non functional, I can’t even use it at a stop light, so it needs replaced.

Maybe 10% of your stopping power. Do a panic stop from 80mph using just front. Then front and rear together . You’ll see very little help

Now advanced track riders will trail brake(rear brake) right up to apex then roll on throttle.

I just set my entry speed with front brake and then maintenance throttle to apex then roll on throttle.

But I have been dealing with the disability for 10+ years…(couldn’t use rear brake).

Now your brake is completely not functional I understand why you have an issue with that and want to fix it. Previous poster and I were mostly thinking of tracked bikes.

The front brake can provide so much braking force that the rear wheel will lift off the ground making the rear not very useful. Now there are some situations where there is a use for the rear I.e if you are in the grass or gravel or maybe settling the bike in a corner but for the most part all of your braking is done with the front.

The above post shows the correct way to bleed the rear brake, impossible to get the air out without taking the caliper off. Also, get a Mighty vac, I used to have to bleed my clutch every 1000 mi. Haven't touched it in 5k mi since I used the Mighty vac.

about every 2k even without using it much. shove a block of wood between the pads and spritz off any dust/grit from the wiper/seals if you wish.

check the caliper mounting torque after a few tanks.

I use the rear brake primarily just for torquing the rear wheel nut, keep bleeding and it'll work properly.

My rear brake stinks also.....however, I raced Expert for 10 years and only used rear brake when in the grass. :)
