Follow-up to my first thread: http://ducati1199.com/ducati-1199/1620-sharkskinz-racing-bodies.html

So Gunny Fitz was right on the mark with recommending CCR in CT to do the paint work on the 1199. I brought the Sharkskinz bodies to Sean and he created a masterpiece. I wanted to have some of the MotoGP flavor in the design, Sean took the concept and worked it into a flowing pattern that preserved the TriColor concept with the combination of MotoGP accents. The Sharkskinz bodies are fantastic as you can see from earlier pictures they are predrilled and lined up perfectly when mounted to the bike. I've seen several other race bodies and I'm convinced the Sharkskinz are the best on the market. I am not racing with the bike so I had no need for the bellypan (which is mandatory when racing). You may notice that I've fastened the left and right fairings with a simple tie wrap in lieu of using the belly pan, the team as Sharkskinz has since sent me a new one piece lower with a right and left side upper that mounts to the stock mounting points. As I mentioned in an earlier post the team at Sharkskinz has been nothing but spectacular and the quality of their product rocks.
Sean will be spraying those up in the upcoming weeks. Two thumbs up to Gunny for turning me onto Sean and CCR, these guys go back a long way and the stories are priceless. Here are some shots to support my claims! You can reach CCR at 203 334-6748 or at [email protected] (ccrbike.com)

Thank you so very much for the kind words and comment my friend. I find it exciting that you, and the others are so happy with your new paintwork and hope many more jump on board.
Again, Thx for the plug buddy. I will always be here for you and the other loyal members who rate the favor of my quality connections.

that bike looks amazing! Love your work sean.

what is the typical turnaround time for a job like that?

,,,,actually.....I damned near killed myself over the last month....been really sick but I DID in fact keep my deadlines to these three customers. 2 of the jobs were like drop off on a fri / sat and pick up the next fri. This is REALLY hard to do and leaves me NO margin for errors. People FORGET THE DRYING TIMES INVOLVED. I can bake the factory plastic....although I hate to do that. Aftermarket fiberglass......ahhhhhh no effin way. Bad things happen, very bad things. Paint work at this level is like making a layer cake, there are no short cuts and while I have to pay attention to details through out the job....it's the LAST 8-10 hours or so on the back end of the job that makes all the difference in the world. It's like jetting carbs, any ...... can throw in a set of jets or chip a bike.....it's the TWEAKING, the TRIMMING and the Dyno runs that make your bike run better than the ....-bag next to you on the starting grid.
I PREFER, REALLY prefer to have about 10 business days to complete one of these. This time frame is still "fast" when considering the work load. This time frame only works if we correspond with email and work out a lot of the details before hand.
I require a 50% deposit on all work when I get the parts. I order the graphics first. God Bless Robbie from Tapeworks 'cause I lean on that dude HARD...I mean HARD for a fast turn around with the required graphics. He's a PRO and we've developed a rapport during the 20+ years of working together.....so getting the graphics all set and on my doorstep ASAP is a HUGE factor in turn around. No point in my humping my ass prepping stuff, laying down some base coat only to have to wait 4-5 days or longer for the proper paint stencils.....so you see there is a high degree of coordination I have to pull off to get a "fast" turn around.......I also order the materials out of your deposit. Sometimes the material tab on these jobs are $300 or more. I do not use crap $80 a gallon clear coat. I use the best materials money can buy ($290 a gallon for the good clear). Remember, I do not do TRACK work. I ASSUME you will own your bike for 10+ years, never take it on the track and know how to wash a bike every now and again. I am not an ....... either (well sometimes). I am NOT dissing the guy(s) out there doing $400 track paint jobs. I just do not want to do that for a living. There is a place for that work, definitely....I acknowledge that as I've stated in a prior post. But do the math. Why would I (with no helpers and two hands) take in an elcheapo paint job at less per hour if I am staring at three STREET quality jobs sitting across my shop that I get $75 an hour to do? It just makes no sense.

Now having said that....the gentleman who I completed the first tri Colore' just dropped off ANOTHER set of skinz. He TOLD me in no uncertain terms he wants a STUNNER. He will NOT track this new set, he did NOT give me a time frame. So this will be a project that in all likelyhood take a few months. I love jobs like this. I get lost in them. If his budget is $$$$$$$, he WILL get $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ worth of work done and it WILL be "cover of any magazine" quality, simply because I get wood over doing off the wall stuff like this. This job will take a MONTH of planning, spraying out test panels and FEDEXing them to him... bouncing ideas around.... all "the good stuff" that makes me LOVE MY JOB!

Please call, email, or PM Sean for anything price related as these are often issues some customers consider personal.
Thanks for understanding. And no, I'm not his agent- just a good friend for the last 25 years and recipient of his work.
;)
