Another item to check for loose bolts.

I was cleaning my 1199 yesterday and discovered that the aluminum sleeve that covers the exhaust silencer on the right side was very loose. There is two bolts that secure the sleeve to the muffler and one of them had backed out almost all the way. These are a pain in the ... to get to. I took a 8mm ratchet wrench and got to the bolts by going between the rear tire and muffler from the bottom of the bike. There's hardly any room so I could only turn the wrench in 1/4 turns. There is two bolts per sleeve (4 total) and all were loose.

Yes...happened to mine too. I had to remove my stock slip-ons, remove all 3 8mm bolts as I lost one already. Same thing happened...noticed it when I was cleaning my bike too...This is what i did...I installed lockwashers and put some loctite on it. Had to buy another 8mm bolt from my local hardware. Actually, there is a service tip from the Ducati dealers to perform and tighten all 4 8mm bolts upon the 1st 1,000km scheduled service...But mine happened before 1,000kms. Oh well, did it myself and I'm now so sure with lockwashers and loctite...those 8mm bolts wont come loose anymore.

same here. will have one sleeve replaced, as the holes are (mega-) worn out...

Thanks for the info. I have the Termi's installed on mine now so does this issue exist for both stock and Termi?
I did notice 2 of the 4 bolts on the CF hugger backed out halfway that the dealer installed. Removed and applied some thread lock and reinstalled bolts.

I got a bundle of recalls on Friday:

- 2 on the steering damper
- front brake reservoir

Plus some other.

Gawd this is going to suck. The ride back to my dealer is horrible- flat, hot, long boring highway ride to my death.

I may have to let the recalls stack up over the year and then do them all at once if we're going to keep getting them. (as long as they aren't life threatening)

I had about 2200 miles on the odo when I noticed it. The sleeve wasn't loose on previous cleanings.

I see you're from OC. I'm originally from Anaslime. I'm glad i'm out but I do miss the year round riding weather.

What nm did you tighten them too or did you just tighten them ?

I couldn't get a torque wrench in there, no space for it. So I tighten them with a 8mm closed end ratchet.

bolds posted he thinks Ducati will do a recall for this. I certainly hope so. That way the Ducati mechanic can deal with this pain in the ... and lock tight those bolts in. Otherwise, I think we'll be doing this as routine maintenance and it's a ..... getting to those bolts.

Found the right side sleeve loose on mine yesterday. One bolt loose, the other missing on the right side, both bolts loose on the left. I dismounted the mufflers (a PITA to reinstall, as two of the mounting screws...the forward one on the right, behind a member, and the rearward one on the left, behind the chain and a member....are difficult to access), removed all of the screws, repositioned the sleeve, loctited all the screws, including the new one, with high-temp loctite and reinstalled.

Still haven't seen a recall on this yet, but definitely have your dealer check this! For what it's worth, I wasn't sure whether or not the muffler was in danger during a ride to the dealership so I did it myself. I don't believe it would have been any problem to make the 25 mile ride to the dealership even missing all four screws. The muffler would still be attached by the forward support and the attachment to the header flange.

I stupidly expected better of a $20k motorcycle.

Anybody know how long the latest recall procedure (steering head and exhaust butterfly cables) takes at the dealership?

I was told it takes about 45mins. Booked in tomorrow for the procedure myself. Wont be going anywere if its pissing down. My dealer is 50miles away.
