Another reason to love this bike ... and fear it

Cruising on [my favorite stretch of closed-access private roadway], I decided to enjoy the Panigale's luxurious power curve for a moment.

Nearing redline in 3rd, I noticed the front lifting, so I snicked up into 4th to bring the front down ... and it lifted even more--this was on level ground, not going uphill.

I've ridden and owned plenty of fast bikes before, but the 1199 is the first that continues to feel scary fast even after getting used to the power. I just love it! It's the gift that keeps on giving =8-D

I have never experienced that and would probably rather not experience a wheeley in 4th gear.

I know what you mean. It's an awesome bike! The power is just unbelievable. I was out yesterday testing the stability of my new Cosair V RC helmet at high speeds and i just smile every time I pin the throttle. The bike just pull through top end effortlessly.

i experienced similar to you last week in my area, however i couldn't be in 3rd red line, i was in 2nd tearing up a back road in a 30mph limit, got the bike at a cool 45 degree position for about 150 feet then up shift to get down hard into sharp corner stilll on the throttle, my brother who was behind me said he did what he could to keep up on diavel but couldn't as soon as i put front tire on the ground! haha the only he he caught up is when the road came to intersection :)

Oh, trust me, I'd rather not experience it, either! I might have to start buying brown underwear.

I love it, had the front wheel come up while i was exiting a corner, still quite leant over and on one wheel with the front tyre pointing the opposite way... for about 3 seconds i felt like i was a racer.

Holy crap, but you are, cuz you're on a Pani!!!

Sounds like you have one of the stronger Panigales. If you don't have the 41T sprocket it might be something I wouldn't recommend!

It sneaked on me in a few occasions as well, pin the the throttle at corner exit at full lean and before i stand the bike up the front lifted, hella headshake when landed at an angle :(. Scared me shitless!

Me too....except for the scared part. I'm continuously laughing inside my helmet as the bike lifts on exit and sets down shaking a bit a few dozen yards later.

And some guys wonder why the bike's head shakes a bit in some videos. Sheesh! :D

I was at the track this weekend and that front was coming up all over but max in third, I clearly wasn't pushing hard enough ;) I'm still trying to tame this beast after 13,000km!

I have never had mine really come up in third - just gets light and skips off the pavement if it's a little uneven. In second its almost unpredictable. If I run to redline in first an don't "bang" the clutch it usually does not come up at all in second. But if I go wide open at a lower rpm, it will suddenly come up around 8,000 rpm. Sometimes just controlled maybe a foot or less, but occasionally it jumps up more.

Wheelies have a lot to do with throttle and a lot to do with how you carry your weight on the bike. I'm pretty good at adapting to what the bike is going to do and riding right on the verge of it lifting, but not quite. But this bike is a hoot to ride because as you say, it sometimes taps you on the shoulder and says "you think you are good? Watch this..."

Been tracking mine since the beginning and have pretty much capitulated.

The old WFO out of corners is next to impossible, for me at least. When this thing hooks up in 1st, 2nd and 3rd you're looking at the sky. After a 20 min session of hanging on, my carcass is reduced to a heap of quivering flesh, my mind overwhelmed and the fire breathing dragon underneath me is still growling and trying to bite my leg off:D:D.

Every time I think I'm one up on her and have it figured out I end up being put in my place. What a blast!

Epic poetic prose, my man.

Whats with the advertising on every post you leave???

*WARNING: OFF TOPIC*

You mean my signature? Let me answer a question with a question: When you get hit by a brain-dead left-turning cager and your hospital bills exceed your UMP limits, would you rather play Russian Roulette by pulling out the Yellow Pages and picking the first lawyer who promises to "FIGHT for you!" or would you rather call an attorney who you know, at the very least, loves bikes and understands motorcycling issues?

Often, juries are predisposed to find against motorcyclists, either because they view us as "Bikers" (AKA the "one-percenters"--before the "Occupy" movement got their grubby hands on that term) or because they're pissed when we startle them by actually passing them on the freeway when they're doing 50 in the fast lane.

I'm excited about serving injured or otherwise wronged motorcyclists. So, please: I'm all ears. What's a better way to get my message out?

How about you use a commercial venue like every other business??? Website etc.... I simply do not see how such blatant advertising within threads serves the forum.....
