Looking like I'm going to be a Ducati owner in the near future! Any thing about the base model 1299 I should be aware of? (common faults/must have mods/tyre pressures/suspension, TC, ABS settings, maintenance tips) anything really! All your advice would be greatly appreciated!

i checked my user manual like crazy, but it said nothing about using the "search function" on forums. So definitely don't use that.

Welcome to the forum anyway. You can find all the answers to your questions by using the search function or just browsing existing threads. Not everyone is as sarcastic as our friend above ^ Good luck.

Just after some help on first time Ducati ownership. I've obviously made the crazy assumption that owners are usually more than happy to share their experiences, silly me! First time posting on any forum to be honest as I'm definitely a low tech man in a high tech world, LOL! I assume you're owners manual says nothing about manners either?

Might be better to ask specific questions. Asking a "tell me everything" question probably not going to get you much.

As for the owners manual (and given half the postings in this forum) a case could be made that most here have never read it and wouldn't be able to answer your last question. :)

This is my 10 cents worth, had a modified 1199 for 3 months and ever time I road it I had a grin from ear to ear. Sold it and bought the 1299. Stock standard I felt that all the fun was gone. Bought the akrapovic full system thinking that would give me something to smile about but alas very little gain if any. Going to install rapidbike race module to try and unlock something. Make sure you put socks over the master cylinder reservoirs as mine have leaked over the dash and permanently marked the screen. Do NOT get me wrong, this thing is a thing beauty and IS a hell of a lot easier to ride, just lost a bit of that mongrel that I loved with the1199

So you are saying the 1199 in comparison to the 1299 was like the 1*98 to the 1199 in terms of rawness .... please promulgate your findings, i'm curry ... (had Indian last night...)

Thanks guys, much appreciated! Even little tips like this are really handy to know and could save me a packet!

the 1299 is awesome! I got the base model aswell, and it's a beast! Easy to ride on the street, bloody fast on the track. Plenty of steering feedback, and a TC system that is much less intrusive and more progressive than for example a S1000RR of the same year (tried on a wet track). Set your sags, and off you go! :D

Warm welcome sir, hopefully you will find useful information here. I am sorry I can't offer any help as I have only test ridden the 1299, my 1199abs was a beautiful machine.
Stay safe and enjoy the new stead and the forum

D3V , hi I have a 1299 base . Its fantastic !! Had a new 848 Evo then a new 899 and now this . It's well worth getting the Akrapovics . This is an upgrade and the OEM weigh a lot . They came with the Ducati DDS map and where fitted at the 1000 k service. Also R&G radiator guards are recommended

Oh yes ... Get the suspension/ sag set up ( by someone who knows what he's doing) and you'll be set [emoji106]

depends what you are after. had 1000ccbikes in the past twins and fours.i had the 899 last year and that bike was the smoothest ,user power and nimble bike ive had for a long time.
It made me step up to a 1299 with akras.
put 120 miles on the 1299 now and you cant help feel it has a presence on the road that the other bikes ive rode did not.
im not able to tap into all the awesome power it has as running it in at mo but going up the motorway ticking along at 4 to 5k hitting 85mph it aint slow.
your riding a special bit of kit and you and everyone else knows it especially if you've got akrapovics without the baffles .
to new to this bike to find faults but would say there is a bit more weight on the wrists than the 899 but compared to the old gsxr1100 I had its like riding a comfy sofa.
you don't mind having a few aches when riding a piece of art its part of the weird pleasure, but as you get used to it after not riding for a while due to winter the aches go away. not 20 rears old anymore hahaha.

cheers

I highly recommend you read the manual that came with the bike. There is so much good information in there. You asked about tire pressure for instance, well that is in the manual.

To be honest things like suspension settings etc that work for one guy may not work for you. Start by setting sag correctly and go from there.

One tip I can give you is to keep an eye on the bolts and screws which tend to get loose due to vibration. I have lost a few fairing screws that way when I first got the bike.

Learn how to adjust the chain and make sure it is the correct tension and keep it lubed.

Have fun with your new Ducati
