Anyone going to the MotoGP races this April at the new Circuit of Americas track in Austin, TX? I've never been to a race before and thinking of going. Ducati has their own grandstand. Has anyone been to a MotoGP race? Any fun? Does Ducati do a good job of entertaining their Ducati fans?

I went to Indianapolis last year, it's pretty sweet. I had access to the Ducati Grandstands, but didn't use it. They didn't seem that much better than any other grandstands. Plus my friend I was with had a friend working with Alpinestar who got us passes into the paddock area. So, bonus! :D

Yea, I am lucky enough to have this in my backyard. In addition, there is the first track day out there the first weekend in April. (Gonna make that as well)

I am kinda on the fence with the "Ducati only Grandstand" deal.. A general pass is only $89 bucks for all three days and most seating is completely open throughout the track anyway. I am not really seeing too much benefit for the Ducati pass at $215. I really dig sitting in the turn 5-8 area anyway.. It's pretty awesome.

The think that will sway me is the parking situation.. I was dropping $20 per day just to park my Panigale out there during the F1 race.. The Ducati pass includes parking for all three days. I don't understand their "track walk" thing.. (I sure as hell don't wanna WALK on the track... maybe I am missing something there?)

When any of you guys get to town... hit me up. This is seriously my town. I know all the cool .... to do, where to eat, and people that run all the top bars and clubs so, if you are into that kinda sutff.. send me a PM.

See ya at the race gentlemen.

Hey Thomas,
Have you been to the W Hotel in Austin? Isn't that a new hotel?
How is the weather in April? Warm? Rainy?
Section 15 (Ducati stand) supposedly has seats with backs. I noticed the parking situation for the 3 days requires pre-purchasing a parking permit through Ticketmaster and for those renting a car must purchase a Toll Pass as well.

I've never been to a motorcycle race and have never been to Austin. I'm still thinking about going.

I already have my hotel booked for the race at Indy, any idea when the ducati grand stand tickets go on sale? this will actually be my first motogp race after watching for years, so really excited.

I was talking to the folks over at AMS last week about this. I believe Toni might be putting something together. Oh and hell yes! I am going!

The W is surely the nicest hotel in downtown Austin...It's the newest for sure. I kinda prefer the value of the Omni though. Its smack downtown and not crazy expensive. I just don't see the benefit of the W.. especially with the kinda price gouging they are surely gonna do for the GP weekend. Everyone with money will be trying to stay there and hang there. Everything about that place goes against what Austin represents.. (IMO) It just has a pretentious "LA or Dallas" vibe. (If that makes any sense at all?)

I know a few guys that run the bars in the W and if it wasn't for the straight hook up they give me, I would never set foot in that place ever.

For sure, all the high dollar chicks and rich dudes will be trolling around there... surely everyone that sponsors the race or has anything to do with it will be staying there. I will be shocked if you can get a room that weekend though.

The weather in April is more than likely gonna be hot. It gets freakin hot here. Even in April. I don't think we ever have a "warm" season here. Rain is something I can't predict because our rain is hit or miss... we go months without it and then it rains like crazy..

I think I am gonna just buy the Ducati pass.. After the coin I spent on the F1 race, this is just peanuts compared to that.

Ya'll need anthing at all about Austin, hit me up... I am looking forward to it.

Words can not express how kick ass that track is... It is truly a work of art and beautiful beyond words. We as Americans for the most part, have no grasp how lucky we are to have that track here. I am proud as hell it is here in Austin.

See ya.

Thomas,
I already booked a room at the W. I locked in a rate of $300/night by checking the AAA discount box. The price was $509/night without the discount. The pool area looks nice too.

I haven't booked the flights yet. I wanted to investigate further to make sure it was a trip I wanted to make. I at least convinced the wife already.

lol - you mean it's not "weird"! I commuted for quite a while to Drippin' Springs frpom STL, Austin is great town for bars/music and of course Salt Lick!!

I attended the Formula 1 race there a few months ago so I will give my opinion to those that are on the fence about attending an event at the Circuit of the Americas and ticket/grandstand issues. It's a must for any race fan!!! Absolutely fantastic track... I've attended Motogp at Laguna and Indy and the Austin track is now my favorite.

As far as tickets go....In my opinion I would stick with general admission tickets (unless you already plan on getting a suite) because you can get a great view of the racing action from numerous locations around the track. If you want to sit down and take a break there are plenty of grassy areas around the track. The large tower in the middle of the track has an elevator and during the Formula 1 race you could pay around $30 dollars to take the elevator to the top and watch the action for about 15-20 minutes. They really did not enforce the time limit while i was there. I'm not sure if the price will be the same for Motogp or if it will be an option for the race, just an FYI.

Same as Thomas my back yard. I will be going all 3 days. Tickets already purchased and now to wait and see what the weather does. If we go by trends, it is hard to say. Texas is not unknown for late season cold fronts that bring cooler temps and rain. We have not seen that too much in the last couple of years though. I would say to watch the weather forcast about a week out if you are wondering what type of attire to bring. If you are gambling on the race weather. I would not put too much money on either.

The area below the grandstands is a good example of a grassy area that still provides a great view of the track.
