Applying RIM tape

I just took delivery of some reflective red rim tape from Cycle Gear. I've watched the videos on how to install with the tool provided.

What I haven't seen anywhere is those that have done the installation stating that a bike stand (front and/or back) is required.

Obviously being able to rotate the wheels by hand while the bike is stationary is preferred but is it possible to do a clean job without the stands?

I have a complete front and rear bike stand set for my sold 996 (which by the way I need to sell if anyone is interested) but I know this wont fit and I don't want to buy a stand in order to install the now 'in hand' rim tape.

Anyone do this install without the stands?

I had a friend of mine do his Suzuki rimtape without stands.

It was a two man operation that required one person doing the tape with applicator, and one person rolling the bike forward to move the wheel.

Alternatively, you can get two people to lift the bike's front and rear as you apply the tape and spin the rim.

Is it easier with a stand? You betchya! Is it required? Not really, but it's still a pain.

I've done it with only the rear stand. To say the front was a little tricky is an understatement, but it can be done.

I have seen a stationary unit with 2 rolers that you roll the wheel onto and you can spin the wheel on the bike.

for the rear: get a 4x4 or any other post you trust, which is a little longer (~2-3") than the height of your right rear passenger footpeg, when on the sidestand.

lift the bike up a little and place the post under it. also good for applying chain lube...

for the front? haven't had to be that creative so far...

I knew Robbie (owner of Tapeworks) wayyyy back when he had a tiny little shop in Meriden, CT, and here you sent me a link to his site for this Mundy!
He did a tape kit to my helmet to match a CBR600 F2 with the light blue and pink colors, remember that bike! lol

My buddy Sean from CCR uses alot of Tapeworks stuff in his custom paint work and swears by the quality of the products. Thanks bro!
