Austin Racing - the rest of the story?

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

In the "About Us" section of Austin's own website they state:

WE WORK CLOSELY WITH A WORLD LEADING FORMULA 1 EXHAUST DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING COMPANY HERE IN THE UK

So I'm not sure why this "sensational revelation" is such a big surprise to everyone ?

Well, on the same page they also write the following:

FROM SHEET MATERIAL TO THE FINISHED PRODUCT

FROM THE F1 MANUFACTURING PLANT TO OUR TEST DYNO FACILITY, ALL IN HOUSE

In-House: Conducting an activity or operation within a company, instead of relying on outsourcing.

I may be reading it wrong but they should atleast not be misleading consumers into thinking things are done in-house.

Yep the marketing men get you again.
I've worked for people like this in a past life.

Cheers

It does state that the product starts off at the F1 manufacturing plant then on to the AR dyno. The reference to In house could possibly infer Goodfabs has a stake in AR, or they have some sort of joint venture agreement.

You make a good point.
But in the absence of full transparency we will never really know.

Sadly a lot of people have lost confidence in the whole AR thing, for a whole lot of legitimate reasons and on a whole lot of different levels:-(

Man I hate this whole marketing thing:-(

It's so much like the political situation in this f****d up country, with all the goings on and manouvering behind closed doors, and lies, broken promises(whether they're core or non core), deceptions, miss truths, and half truths.
I'm literally sick to the stomach of all of it. True.

That's my rant for the day. And I don't feel any better:-(
F**k it, i'm going for a ride.

Yep - agree with you 100% on the marketing thing - and also the political situation.

Watching this thread, and the other couple that relate to it, progress as they have - well it's been interesting on many levels. My brother would have a field day psychoanalysing a lot of the participants.

Ummmm

I think Gunny's been perfectly neutral on this like a respected member with vendor ties should be. Props to him!

That is correct ttkarp, and I thank you for mentioning this. I truly have stayed FAR outta this entire mess and its NOT because Randy or Bellissmoto wants to carry this product either! Its because I know absolutely NOTHING about them, never sold one or even talked to someone about one, personally dont like it too much, and just never wanted to get in the middle of all this. Seriously gents, I appreciate being left out of this ok? Apologies accepted my friend,I appreciate that since I dont ever recall jumping in on all this. The "Wow" I just put up was due to poor Rich being exposed so badly it has to make him want to find a hole and crawl inside! PLEASE leave me off the list of angry folk on this one if you would as this is one I'd rather not get dirty on this .... ok guys? Tango Tankee!!

Out

ps. It was NorthBankGooner who stepped up and apologized in advance. Therefore I truly thank you sir since I've stayed WAY out of this shitstorm bro. "This a while back before he started with a vendor. Might be wrong though. If so I apologize in advance." :)

I would love to see you even attempt to replicate the exhaust, middle man or not. Hahaha. It would mean you would actually have to do something other than insult people on a forum... Never mind.

I should start an exhaust company so I too can piss all over my clientele like Poor has done.

Comment deleted Gunny. Did not mean to drag you in to this. Sorry about that.

My big question is who did the design work, not who fabricates it. Being in the automotive production and racing world, I can tell you that almost no low volume shops or OEMs fabricate their own stuff. They usually just design and assemble it. I'll take a low volume car for example... The Ford GT. The engine and transmission are hand "assembled" at Ford, but Ford doesn't actual manufacture the engine parts or transmission parts themselves, their Teir 1 suppliers do. If I design a new gearbox for a motorcycle, I don't have gear grinders behind my office, the work is sent out to a good gear shop and then we will inspect and assemble them here. I guess what I'm getting at, is that it's pretty standard for a low volume, (or even high volume) company to not actually manufacture their own product. Now if the design was done elsewhere, that is a completely different story and would actually make this a lot more comical if AR was just a marketing front and Rich does the worst PR and marketing ever...

Well Rich has been silent since this info became public knowledge...which is not his usual style.... I guess we can draw our own conclusions as to why that might be???

Having worked in a boiler and heat exchanger repair shop that occasionally worked in Inconel, I have to say that most fab shops simply don't work in this material. It's a bit tempermental, at best.

Wonder if AR does their own stainless steel work, including prototyping, then outsource only the inconel fabrication....or of they (he?) outsource all manufacturing?

Doesn't matter a whit's bit in the long run, to me, but it brings up a valid question about a vendor we all know. Interesting thread.

well if you claim to do in house you should do in house. just as a business principle. honesty always helps in the long run.

i bet the business case for AR still needs to bring out at least 100 systems sold for making all the "R&D" worth it. by that i mean fitment, dyno testing, prototypes (they are expensive)...

after all, is still think, it is a good looking and sounding system, knowing that the pipes come from a good source, having seen the fix on the broken tab, ... but it has to prove the numbers.

so the only think rich can do now IMHO is ggo out, stay cool, be honest, get an independent source to thest the systems vs. stock / termi/ akra and leave it open to be discussed.

if i was a customer, i would expect him to determine the next steps to make the systems reach the claimed goals under given circumstances (by that i mean not having to buy this and that more...)

now it all comes back to us as humans, and here it is where the .... hits the fan :D
