Now that quite a few peeps have received their beloved 1199s.
What are people using to secure their pride and joy?

I understand that is a thief wants your bike, there's pretty much nothing you can do to stop him/her. That's what comprehensive insurance is for, but what is being used as a deterrent to the general opportunistic mug?

I'm thinking of getting a RoadLok and a Scorpio rLiNK (SR-i1100). I won't worry about flashing lights and other do-dads, just want the tracking component.

Cheers,
LJ

PS. I found this thread.. but not much in it.

I replaced my rLink(SR-i1100) from my 1198 SP to My 1199sTri .. the space was very tight on the 1198 and its worst on the 1199. I finally got it in Bike now waiting for the connector kit, just order it.. when I had it on the 1198 it gave me some peace of mind.

I saw their connector kit, and while I understand they want to keep it simple, it wouldn't be that hard to provide another complete one which would enable lights use.

Because of that, I will pass on this one.

If you get an alarm or active tracking system, make sure you keep it on a battery charger, as the stock battery is smaller than on the 1198.

I'm buying the DP lock and alarm since it has a tilt sensor and makes a ton of sound if the bike is moved. I park in a secure garage at night so this is just parking during the day on the street, that and I keep comprehensive coverage.

Make sure your bike is insured for its real value so they give you what you paid for it new. Not really a big deal right now since our bikes are brand new, but down the road you don't want to get screwed on the depreciated value. It cost me like 50 bucks more to get mine insured for the real value.

Carry a gun and keep it in view at all times :D

I too plan on getting the rlink. Everything I have read about it sounds great. I love the ability to control/monitor it from your phone and track its movement if its taken. Its also neat to be able to track your ride and its data.

That is a good heads up, mine is as I unfortunately had to go through using my policy to file a claim when my 1198s was stolen from my parking garage back in Feb . Geico were great to deal with and even included sales tax on the bike in what my claim paid.

Alarms can work , but can leave you stranded with a dead batt also. If you use one , keep your bike on a charger every night it is at home ! I think I'm just gonna go with a couple of the noisy disc alarms this time. If they still get it , at least this bike is insured !

Maybe A plus

That may be a good thing since the flasher would drain the battery in the bike quicker. I had it on my 1198SP and when the elevator moved to my floor @ the parking it when off now if it goes off it will on back up battery on device. Last year a had the basic plan this time I upgrade it to the unlimited plan and the GPS on it is that good. I'm happy with this alarm. I had a scorpio SR-i900 on my gixxer and caught a lady with a baseball bat was trying to do batting practice on my Bike. ;)

I'm not that fussed about flashing lights or even an audible alert (although if I can get it to work without too many false positives, it would be nice).
I like the idea of the bike txt'ing me and the GPS tracking.

I too have given this much thought. I do plan on swapping out the stock battery for a LiFEPO4 battery. Although these have more cranking power, most of the ones currently on the market have less capacity (AH). Which is bad for slow drain scenarios like an alarm.
Thinking I I may have to make my own *sigh*:rolleyes:.

+1, my thoughts exactly.

The light is nice because it warns people. It shows that if they insist, it's gonna ring. It's an important feature for me. I am more afraid of people riding it without permission than thieves.

Just ordered the Scorpio rLink

Scorpio has their weekend special going on right now so it was a good time to do it. Doing the rlink with the OEM connector and I am excited to use it. I figured since the flashers wont work that I am going to get some small LED's to hide and wire them in to work with the alarm part of it. I am excited.

this may sound dumb but i commute into New York City and park bike on street in Manhatten, yes an 1199S ABS on the street. I have a ducati alarm fitted but, and no kidding, the best thing I have is a Dowco bike cover that has heat resistant panels at bottom so I can throw it over it even when it is at 220F when I park.... Makes it look like any other covered up crappy bike

Not a word of a lie but today i was in a hurry, covered it and left key in and alarm off by accident..... realized when walking over tonight and was almost running in panic. Bike still there. If they want it they will always take it whatever you do, reckon best bet is making it look boring. Generally i always set the alarm and lock the steering. Looked into LowJack but delaer could not find anywhere to put it!

Yes.. this is the dilemma I'm facing at the moment. If I get the i1100, where do I stick the control unit..
