Much as I would like to see Troy show his younger whipper-snappers a thing or two about racing, there is no denying that whilst he would continue to be an excellent development rider, if he chose to be, at 44 years of age, his mind might be writing cheques his body can no longer cash. You just don't bounce as well, the older you get and there comes a point where you have to weigh the risk of lasting and permanent physical injury, against the chance of repeated success.
I would hate to see him get injured at the expense of his personal pride, as he frankly has nothing left to prove. There is a lot to be said for bowing out gracefully and quitting while you are ahead. Look at Schumacher's return to F1 for instance. An unmitigated disaster.
Saying that I would be lying if I said I would rather he didn't make a comeback, but as long as it did not blot his copybook and he truly felt he could be competitive as opposed to just making up the numbers. Then, I'd welcome his return. No one, including myself will think any the less of him if he didn't.
