Howdy....
In my endless internet and dealer searches I have struggled to find a confirmed fork spring weight installed as standard equip in my Bayliss..... Ohlins website suggests off the shelf FGRT 43mm with 30mm cartridge is shipped with 10 n/mm so I'll go with that.....
However!
During my many hours of searches looking for what should be easy spring rate answers I discovered something interesting...
Ducati Manual reccommend Shell Donax TA as the forkoil to be used however Ohlins FGRT forks ship with Ohilins brand 01309 as standard.....
Both are very different in centistoke ratings!!
Ohlins 01309 (R&T) kinematic velocity is measured at 19 centistokes @ 40 degees C
Shell Donax TA kinematic velocity is measured at 34.9 centistokes @ 40 degees C

Interested to know what other Bayliss or Ohlins FGRT guys are using and would also love to hear any comments regarding the Kin. vel. differences.
I am about to order slightly stiffer forksprings 11n/mm after some recent testing.

Cheers.

I have fgrt forks on my v4

They had 10 springs in as std I have changed the springs to suit me and my riding style changing them is easy at the track so been there done that to get what feel I wanted I’m currently 11 in one 10 in the other
Had them re valved accordingly and had their stroke increased to 130 too

They have been serviced by the ohlins tech who does the bsb paddock and he uses ohlins oil

Is it a road bike or track bike

Yeah Im now almost certain the 10Nmm springs are standard accross the FGRT range (also fgrt on other brands Aprillia for example).... Seems rediculous that this info is so hard to find through the bike manufacturer and the amount of misimformation out there in the forums... ask a 1000 people get 900 different answers. You are right though... Easy to access so I will go ahead and pull the springs and confirm theyre 10's before I order my 11Nmm...... The centistoke dilemma is still bugging me though..... Any idea which weight Ohlins oil the tech used? Like I say..... Donax TA and 01309 (R&T) are both reccommended but miles apart in centistokes at 40c.
The stroke increase is interesting too...

When I talked to Kyle Racing about the 22 V4S forks which has NPX carts and also spec Donax TA, they said all Ohlins forks contain and should be maintained with Ohlins oil.

Take the fork stroke increase with a grain of salt. Andy’s stroke increase is a kludge for when he needs heavy springs for his weight but can’t use all the stroke so then you put in lighter springs and increase travel. If you increase stroke to 130 from 120 you’ll also need to fix the front end geometry (rake/trail) which is a whole other can of worms

Yeah not looking to increase stroke just wondered the reasoning behind it..... Standard stroke with the 11nmm should be perfect for me. I was finding the bottom of the stroke every session but lost feel winding on preload to hack my way out of it... I know S/Preload is not the fix just curious to take sag out and acheive more travel to see just if I could bring it off the bottom to conform and 11 (1nmm up over what is fitted) would be in the ball park. Cheers for your experiences with Kyle Racing.... especially given the v4S also spec Donax TA... who can argue with the Ohlins and Race techs? they'd know and all seem to be 100 percent for the Ohlins oil..... I'm gonna go the same route it makes total sense. Thanks Super Dom!

The stroke increase is a proven mod for the FGRT fork and works well. It's pretty easy to get the front geo right with initial settings from the Ohlins suspension specialists.

No I’ve ignored the Ohilins expert and gone with some calcs and simple trig instead !

Both street and track Bruce. I'm fairly handy mechanically and love spending time in the shed so swapping stuff around wether it be internals or externals is as enjoyable for me as riding is.

Do you ride at collie or barbagallo, we're currently rebuilding our suspension workshop but Russell speak in wangarra is really good or Justin at protwin

This is a pal both cl and I know at Laguna last year he’s never been there before and was 5 secs quicker than what you say you do!

You’re as much an Ohlins expert as me. So not much of one at all. If it were me and I needed help w setting up my suspension, I’d go to someone locally that you trust.

It’s rich that andy posts his “pal’s” laps (which are a few secs off mine) but won’t post some of his own. I also have a “pal” that laps in the 1m30’s. Not sure what the point of this is but to obfuscate

Think the point was to show a track that you have been to.

Well I know all the places I have been with him and where my laps sit in comparison to him, which then gives me a reference against you..

But you won’t post actual times hahaha

Not sure how “comparing your relative times” to my lap times at a track you’ve never been proves that 130 mm stroke is a performance improvement over 120
