Trailered my bike to the dealer today with oil in the radiators and coolant in the oil.

It started with a small puddle of oil underneath the bike which I thought came from the airbox. At the same time, the engine was running slightly warmer than usual. Turns out it was from the radiator overflow. There was about 250ml of coolant missing, so I topped it off and let run the engine until the fan started. After letting it cool down I noticed the engine oil in the sight glass had turned milky white and there was coolant missing again.

There was a lot of head scratching at the dealer today and not many answers.

Sorry to hear that.
Hoping that you don't have to deal with Ducati of North America on this one, otherwise you are screwed

Depending on where you are in Canada, there are a few of us Canuck knuckle-dragging-mouth-breathers that can maybe point you in the right direction, if you're not confident in the shop/dealer you're dealing with.

Can't remenber if it was the second or third thing the service rep told me. Never had a bad experience though, my '12 exceeded it's sale price in warranty claims and it was all good except for the waiting part. Summer is short enough around here, no need to lose the scooter for a few weeks.

From Québec but have a cousin in Didsbury, been there many times.

My dealer has been exemplary so far, only thing I fear is that it's their first Pani with the need for open-heart surgery.

Don't think so, not even a bubble in the rad at 5k rpm. I'm thinking towards the sleeves, busted O-ring or something.

Sleeve sounds more likely of those 2. That's a lot of coolant in a short period of time to get through a piston ring.

I'm interested to know what it is...

About the knuckle-dragging thing: Ours are dragging on ice at least have the time, that's why they're not as worn as our american cousins' :D:D

Ha! I'm in AB now (moved from Vancouver in October) so mine are just smooth and frost bitten.

Feeling your pain fella. My dealer has had my R approx. 3 weeks of the 3 months I have owned it. Really frustrating when the riding season is so short.

Verdict is in : Turns out the sleeve on the rear cylinder moved and by doing so scratched the crankcase. Need to wait for the cases, dealer has to fit them together to measure which bearings to put in and then order the bearings. at least another 3 weeks! Yowzer:mad:

By scratching crankcase, I assume that means that the sleeve scratched the cylinder that it sits in. How'd the bearings get pooched too?

That's a ...... deal. Hopefully the tech is super good and has everything better than the assembly line did.

Antifreeze and bearings really don't like each other.

When engines I've taken apart at work had antifreeze in the oil, the bearing shells were badly pitted.

Picked up my bike last night after 6 weeks, went 30 km before check engine came on and the engine shut down. Back to the shop it went.

Before leaving I signed a 14k$ warranty claim. New sleeves, bases and vertical head with all the gaskets and small parts.
