Brake through??

Hybrid? Doubtful the advantage will outweigh the disadvantage. Electrical brake by wire, maybe. But I think pure aero is most likely. Ever tried simulering a rotating wheel with an open center? It's got nasty drag...

Engineers out of control, if they had their way humans would not be piloting they're machines. As one race engineer once told me "a rider/driver can't win a race, they can only lose it".
All I can say is thank GOD for dirt sprint car racing, we are relatively engineer free.

Same thoughts here. That is likely just aero. Spinning up another flywheel to store that energy would also pose some handling issues.

energy storage? nope

considering how the rear wheel is often off the ground and intentionally unbraked by rider and electrical/mechanical means, there is no way you would be able to recover energy from the rear wheel with out risking sliding the rear and upsetting the whole braking process.

And then Skynet takes over the world...

Or it could just be aerodynamic in nature as Ducati suggested. I don't think Ducati has any problem squeezing out more horsepower out of the bike. It's already challenge enough to manage what they already have. But that wouldn't give someone a reason to write an article...
