Firstly, I apologise for yet another thread on sound and trust me usually I am all about making my bike as loud as possible.

Anyhow I have recently imported an 1199 into AUS from the USA and the bike needs to pass a sound test to enable registration. To date I have had very little luck, working with an engineer to bring the sound down through modifying the stock exhaust. The bike is still 10db higher than it needs to be.

Has anyone been successful in bringing the noise down significantly on a stock exhaust? Can you let me know how you did this?

I have read numerous threads on db killers, air filters etc.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Stuff the exhaust with steel wool with a small cable through it and after the test, pull it out. .... the government .... bags.

At X RPM?

Do your stock cans not have the baffles/Killers?

I wonder if i've got my stock cans. I'll look at lunch.

Safety wire a bunch of steel wool and stuff it in each side. There's a significant amount of sound coming from the headers, too, so wrapping them would help. Then again, 10db is quite a bit. You might want to have a local shop weld on a Japanese-style Panigale exhaust and then remove it once you pass sound.

Get the exhaust flapper valve to get stuck in a semi open position. Close it so far until your sound limit is achieved.

Cheers.

My bike is actually in Melb getting the testing done.... Would be interested to know if the stock cans are different AUS vs USA?

XIXCIX - if the part is different would you be interested to sell ur stocks cans or lend them to me for a cost? I am assuming u bought your pani in AUS?

You sheep fuckers should know how to plug things :D .

Our resident bunny doesn't miss an occasion to crack me up:D:D.

Anecdote: Calabogie, Ont., little bro has a Gixxer 1k with a Tailor made, flunks at sound, finds an empty beer can in the back of the truck, twists it in a wad, stuffs it in the exhaust and passes sound flying colours.

Go to my page and see what we do for a living, it will get clearer;)

I doubt if they are different.
If I have mine you can have them. I assume, perhaps yours might have had the dbkillers removed.
